King is a 1 time South Sydney Reserve Grade premiership winner in 1945.

King was a rugby league and cricket player in Gilgandra before he enlisted in 1941. After enlisting he transfered to Sydney, playing in Inter-Regimental Army competitions, before he was graded by South Sydney in 1944 under the service man's rule. He made his senior grade club and premiership debut in the 1944 Round 13 Third Grade clash against Eastern Suburbs at the Sports Ground. The following week he was in reserve grade in the final 1945 Round 14 Reserve Grade clash against Canterbury-Bankstown at Belmore Oval. He made his first grade club premiership debut in the 1945 Round 9 clash against Newtown at the Sports Ground.

King father of future South Sydney First Grade coach Johnny King, was talented fast winger, representing the South Sydney club in the Sydney 6-hour Day Celebrations, coming 3rd in the 100 yard race. He was also a dead eye shot with the gun.

King played 3 seasons with South Sydney between 1944 and 1946. He played 6 first grade club games with South Sydney, which included 5 first grade premiership games for South Sydney. Overall he played 20 senior grade career club games for South Sydney, which included 19 senior grade career premiership games.

King played his final first grade premiership game for South Sydney in the 1946 Round 6 clash against Canterbury-Bankstown at the Sports Ground. He would play the resof the season in reserve grade playing his final senior grade club and premiership game for South Sydney in the 1946 Round 14 Reserve Grade clash against Eastern Suburbs at the Sports Ground.

After retiring from Rugby League, King became a professional runner competing in the Wagga Gift in 1947 and winning the Canberra Gift in 1947.
