Lee first trialed with South Sydney in 1936, where he broke his ankle in the reserve grade trial against North Sydney at Mascot. Returning in 1937 he made his senior grade club and premiership debut with South Sydney in the Round 8 Third Grade clash against North Sydney at North Sydney Oval. Just over a month later he stepped up into Reserve Grade for the 1937 Round 2 City Cup clash against Canterbury-Bankstown at Belmore Oval. In 1938 he was called up into first grade during a injury crisis for his first grade premiership debut in the 1938 Semi-Final against Eastern Suburbs at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
This game would Lee's only first grade club and premiership appearance. Lee would play most of his career in the lower grades either on the wing or centre for South Sydney.
Lee played 4 seasons with South Sydney between 1937 and 1940. He played 1 first grade premiership match. He would play 56 senior grade club games for South Sydney, which included 46 senior grade premiership games and 10 senior grade cup games.
In 1941, he once again trialed with South Sydney, but was not graded.
