Leo is a 1 time U21 Preisdents Cup winner in 1942. He made a cameo in the 1943 and 1945 Reserve Grade South Sydney premiership winning squads.
Not to be confused with J.M.Leo from Balmain. Leo is a South Sydney junior who played junior reps for South Sydney with the 1942 U21 Presidents Cup team. He made his senior grade club and premiership debut in the 1943 Round 1 Third GRade clash against Newtown at Henson Park. He stepped into reserve grade mid season in the 1943 Round 10 Reserve Grade clash against North Sydney at North Sydney Oval. He then got a taste of first grade in the 1943 short form first grade Knockout Carnival for the benefit of referee pioneer Tom McMahon. At the end of the 1944 season he made his first grade club debut for South Sydney in the 1944 Tour match against Lithgow at Lithgow. Then in 1945 Round 13 he made his first grade premiership debut against Western Suburbs at Pratten Park.
Leo played 4 seasons with South Sydney between 1943 and 1946. He played 4 first grade club games for South Sydney which included 2 first grade premiership games. Overall he played 40 senior grade club games for South Sydney which included 38 senior grade premiership career games for South Sydney. He also played in the 1943 short carnival, scoring 2 tries.
Leo played his final first grade premiership game in the 1945 Round 14 clash against Balmain at the Sports Ground. He then played his final first grade club game for South Sydney in the 1945 end of season tour game against the NSW North Coast at Grafton.
