Mahboub a player of lebanese origin, is a former captain of the victorious 1936 St Joseph's G.P.S. team, was playing as a breakaway forward before joining South Sydney. He was graded in 1937 making his senior grade club and premiership debut in the Round 1 Reserve Grade clash against University at the Sydney Sport Ground. It was a tough first year, losing both parents mid season. The following year he was called up to into the 1938 short-form knockout series against Easter Suburbs at the Sydney Cricket Ground. A few days later in the Round 10 1938 he made his First Grade premiership debut against North Sydney at North Sydney Oval.
Mahboub was a vigorous forward, who had a ability to adapt to any phase of the game. His handling and anticipation is excellent.
Playing in only his second and what would become his last first grade premiership game in the 1938 Round 11 clash against Eastern Suburbs at the Sydney Sports Ground, Mahboub broke his colar bone. He would play one further first grade club game in the tour match against Goulburn in Goulburn in 1939.
Mahboub would play 3 season with South Sydney between 1937 and 1939. He played just 3 first grade club games for South Sydney, which included 2 first grade premiership games for South Sydney. He would play 37 senior grade club games for South Sydney, which included 27 senior grade premiership games and 9 senior grade cup games for South Sydney. He also plyed one short-form knockout game for South Sydney.

After Leaving South Sydney
With the rugby professional ban lifted during the war, he returned to union with Randwick, before enlisting. Mahboub served in the Army during World War II, and was stationed in Singapore and Malaya before being taken prisonor when the Eighth Division in Malaya was captured by Japanese forces. He was held as a Prisoner of War for the remainder of the war.
