Porter made his South Sydney senior grade premiership debut in the 1959 Round 1 reserve grade clash against Canterbury-Bankstown at Redfern Oval. A month later he made his South Sydney first grade premiership debut in the 1959 Round 4 clash against Western Suburbs at Redfern Oval in front of a then ground record crowd at Redfern Oval.
Porter was a quality goal kicking winger or centre.
