Six time South Sydney premiership winner in 1925, 1926, 1927, 1928, 1931 and 1932, who was also a member of the 1929 premiership winning squad, missing the final while he was on the Kangaroo tour. Root played in the winning 1925 City Cup final, as was a member of the 1924 City Cup winning squad. He enlisted at a young age of 16, before playing rugby league. With the re-alignment of the club boundaries at the end of 1929 Eddie was forced to transfer to Newtown for the 1930 season.
