After playing for Eastern Suburbs and having to retire because of a injured shoulder, Taylor came out of retirement to play with South Sydney. Taylor made his South Sydney senior grade premiership debut in the Round 1 Reserve Grade clash against Western Suburbs at Pratten Park. After a injury to Bob Honeysett, Taylor was called into first grade, making his first grade premiership debut in Round 2 1957 clash against North Sydney at North Sydney Oval.
Taylor played 5 seasons with South Sydney. He played 41 first grade club games with South Sydney, which included 35 first grade premiership games. He played 45 senior grade games with South Sydney, which included 39 senior grade premiership games.
Taylor made is captaincy debut in the 1960 Round 1 clash against Balmain at Redfern Oval, before regular captain Bernie Purcell returned the following week. This was his only game as South Sydney first grade premiership captain.
Taylor played 3 representative games while at South Sydney, playing one inter-state game for New South Wales.
He played his final first grade premiership game for South Sydney in the 1961 Round 12 clash against Western Suburbs at Pratten Park.
