Veney played in the South Sydney reserve grade premiership decider in 1933.
Born in Sydney as James O'Malveney, before the family shortened their name, he made his way to South Sydney after playing lower grade with Eastern Suburbs. He made his South Sydney senior grade club premiership debut in the 1933 Round 1 reserve grade clash against Newtown at Marrickville Oval.
Veney was called up to play in the 1933 mid-year short form(20 min game) carnival knockout against Balmain at the Sports Ground. Two weeks later he made his South Sydney first grade premiership debut against Balmain at Birchgrove Oval, however broke his colar-bone in the game.
This would be his only first grade appearance for South Sydney. He would go on and play 8 premiership grade club games for South Sydney. He also played 2 short form games for South Sydney. After breaking his colar bone, he returned to the field and played his last senior grade game for South Sydney in the 1933 Reserve Grade Grand Final against Balmain at the Sports Ground. Veney a Police Constable left South Sydney when he was stationed on the mid North Coast.

Veney was a allround sportsman who played cricket, golf, tennis as well as Rugby League. He worked on sporting body committees and obtained his referee licence late his career, while also moving around the NSW country on his police duties.
