Walsh played in the 1939 South Sydney premiership decider. He also played in 1939 State Championship final with South Sydney.
Walsh made senior grade debut in Round 1 1936 against Eastern Suburbs at the Sports Ground. In 5 weeks he stepped up into Reserve Grade in Round 6 1936 against North Sydney at North Sydney Oval. He made his first grade premiership debut in Round 2 1937 against Canterbury-Bankstown at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Walsh played 116 first grade games for South Sydney, including 96 first grade premiership games and 15 first grade cup games. He played 139 senior grade games for South Sydney, including 118 senior grade premiership games and 16 senior grade cup games.
He made his debut as first grade club captain in the 1943 Round 8 premiership clash against Balmain. In 1944 he was elected as first grade club captain. He led the South Sydney first grade team on 17 occasions, including 14 first grade premiership games.
Walsh was not only a versitile footballer, who filled out over the years, he was a glassblower by trade. He worked at the Crown Crystall Glassworks at Waterloo when not playing. He married his wife Hazel Godfrey in 1943. Hazel was the son of boxer Sid Godfrey who was managed by non other than Arthur Hennessy.
Walsh would play his last first grade game for South Sydney in the end of season tour game against Lithgow in Lithgow.
