7 grades undefeated Day
The weekend was one of best weekends for club across all grades in 2 years, when we were not beaten across 7 games in a single day. In first grade then team bounced back after a tough encounter, fter a promising start they needed to come from behind to win. The reshuffle when Gray left the field, disrupted the team late in the first half, where we allowed 14 points to be scored in the final 5 minutes of the half. But a improved defensive effort in the second half keep the opposition scoreless except for a penalty goal, which allowed us to grind out a win. Now for a weekend off across all 7 grades, before we return for the annual Good Friday clash against the Bulldogs.
Humphreys returns
Our halves have been disrupted once again this season, so it was good to see HUmphreys return and help steer the team around the paddock. His kicking game and defence were features once again as it helped steady the team. He only played 70 minutes in his comeback game from a 2025 suspension. He will be better for the run.
Reserves Win First Game
After some terrible news came out during the week with the passing of Tim Johannsens brother, the team lifted for his return. Johannsen had a quality game off the bench and Humphries kicking game gave the team much needed direction. They both played a big part in a return to the winners circle for our Reserve Grade team as they snapped a 11 game loosing streak, to win their first game of the 2026 season.
Keung double
Elijah Keung is having a standout season in U21s and his power running is adding much needed power up front. In the last 20 minutes when the team needed his power, he came up with two short range powerful tries. It won't be long before we gets a call up to reserve grade.
Manu & Latta double
It was big day for our U19 girls who came up with the first win of the season in a powerful win. Keilani Manu, moving out to the centres scored two powerful tries out wide, while replacement hooker Keely Latta scored two tries near the posts. It was great to see the team finally click after some early good performances.
Ryan-Last, McKee and Ballard doubles
Our U17 girls finally clicked, and click they did with a dominant perormance scoring 7 unanswered tries. Ryan-Last chimed into the backline to score two tries, while McKee with her size and deceptive running scored another two. While another Ballard, sister Jazmine Ballard scored two herself. Well done to both girls teams.
Fuel Crisis Growing
With the war in the Iran in full swing, we are seeing petrol stocks dropping and fuel prices increasing. In the work place we are starting to see the effects of this with work from home options returning. It won't be long before we start seeing costs in food and supermarkets increase. So with all of this going on, the fan base will start feeling the economic pinch and choose to not travel. We will watch with interest on the impact to aviation, as this will impact events like Magic Round and regional team travel. It has the potential to create another covid style of limited travel, which will impact North Queensland and the Warriors first.
Round 3 - Stat Attack
Statistically it was a poor game. Completions dropped to 75% from 80% last week. Errors dropped to 16 from 11 last week. Our worst this season. We gave away 7 penalties and 5 6-again calls from 11 last week. Souths Effective 1st tackle dropped to a very poor level of 43.2m from 39.2m last week. Ruck defence Tatola/Keppie-Garlick/Mamouzelos-Koloamatangi-Murray/Tatola (7-3-2-3) dropped to 15 from 13 missed tackles last week.
