Brown was a former South Sydney rugby union player before coming across to rugby league in 1911. He made his first grade club and premiership debut in the 1911 Round 1 clash against North Sydney at the Sports Ground.
Brown was a clever and consistant fullback.

Brown played his final first grade club and premiership match for South Sydney in the 1915 Round 14 clash against Balmain at the SHowground.
