Paul was a member of the South Sydney first grade squad that played in the 1939 premiership decider and 1939 State Championship final, as backup hooker for Percy Fairall.
Paul made his way to South Sydney after playing lower grades with North Sydney. In 1938 he was graded with South Sydney. He made his senior grade club and premiership debut in the 1938 Round 1 Reserve Grade clash against Balmain at Leichhardt Oval. He stepped up into first grade making his first grade premiership debut in the 1939 Round 12 clash against Canterbury-Bankstown at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Paul, was a big forward for a hooker.
