WIN 10-6
During the week significant opposition was put forward by the NSWRL at its monthly meeting, with players threatened with diqualification. Just before the match started there was some argument as to whether the game would proceed. The players of the two teams had received telegrams warning them that if they entered the field they would be liable for disqualification. Eastern Suburbs decided to go on with the match, but South Sydney hesitated. A hastily arranged conference between the managers of the teams resulted eventually that South Sydney would play. This move however was not unanimous and a number of players withdrew, including Wearing, Treweeke, Root and referee L.Deane. Speedway Royal patrons were treated to Sydney's first night football match at the Agricultural Ground last night. Eastern Suburbs fielded team of nine players, opposing South Sydney's nine. The freshly painted white ball, shimmered under the lamps. Every moment of the play was exiting, and the special lighting made it visible to the big crowd. Eastern Suburbs kickoff and Webber openned their account with a well stolen try. Some minutes later he scored again with a good run. Easts 6, Souths 0. The score was unchanged at half-time. In the opening moments of the second half, Maher scored. The conversion was successful. Finch added a try and Kadwell converted. Benny Wearing, Root and Treweek stood out for Souths, and their action was followed by Busch from Easts. Souths running out winners, 10 points to 6.
