WIN 22-20
The Rabbitohs have snatched a 22-20 victory from the Parramatta Eels in the final moments of Round 10 in a thrilling performance from the men in Red and Green to take the KARI Cup. With a Luke Keary try equalising the match within the final two minutes of play, halfback Adam Reynolds was given one of the highest pressure conversion attempts of his career to win the match. The half made no mistake. The Rabbitohs began the match with an air of enthusiasm that saw them running with gusto and defending with venom. But ill-discipline and poor handling would put the side under pressure early. Fortunately, their vigour in defence would keep the Eels scoreless. But despite numerous invitations to the Eels to attack close to the line, it would be Souths who would open the scoring through late inclusion, Michael Oldfield, who finished off a sharp back-line play within 15 metres – Alex Johnston throwing the final long cut-out to make it 4-0 after 15 minutes. While Reynolds’ conversion attempt took the paintwork of the upright, a penalty to Souths within kicking distance a mere few moments later would see the halfback belatedly add the extras to make it 6-0. Ill-discipline and handling would continue to hamper Souths’ game – in part thanks to their renewed enthusiasm, but the weight of possession would eventually result in a try to Semi Radradra to make it 6-4 with 12 minutes in the opening half remaining. Despite having their backs against the wall after some pulverising defence from the Rabbitohs, Radradra would pick up a second try four minutes from the break when he was gifted a pass that would see him race 30 metres virtually untouched to score. Michael Gordon converted to make it 10-6 in favour of the Eels. A failed final-tackle kick diffusion from Alex Johnston on his own line saw Parramatta have one last throw of the dice before the break – Vai Toutai overpowering three Rabbitohs defenders to take the half-time score to 14-6. With Souths’ half-time completion rate reading just 56%, pin-pointing areas for improvement for the second half were a no-brainer. Just four minutes into the second stanza, Radradra made it a hat-trick for the night – the Test winger finishing off a back-line movement before crossing out wide. Gordon converted to make it 20-6. But the Rabbitohs would hit back following a penalty of their own, with Adam Reynolds deceiving the Parramatta defence before some quick passing saw the ball end up in the hands of Kirisome Auva’a who duly planted it down. Reynolds landed the conversion from the touchline to bring the score to 20-12. Souths went straight back on the attack after a charge-down, with Carter playing soccer with the ball to keep it alive for Reynolds who seemingly scored thanks to the bizarre movement. But while the on-field referee ruled a try, The Bunker had other ideas – officials deeming that Reynolds had knocked on despite consensus in commentary that a try would be awarded. After enduring what seemed like an eternity defending on their own line, the Rabbitohs turned things around thanks to a massive break from Inglis – the run eventually resulting in a try to Bryson Goodwin to bring the score to 20-16 with eight minutes remaining. With the clock winding down and with the game slipping away, Inglis and Keary combined down the short-side to create a try from nothing – Keary racing over in the corner to equalise. With Reynolds given the conversion to win the game, the sharpest shooter in the game lined up the attempt from some 28 metres out just inches in from touch. The Souths Junior made no mistake to take the game by 22-20.

U20 National Youth Holden Cup - Round 10
v Parramatta, 5:35pm
LOSS 22-28
Late Changes - Cordtz and Lillis are out. Butler starts five-eighth.
Despite a late revival from the Rabbitohs, the men in Red and Green have gone down to the Eels by 28-22 at Pirtek Stadium this evening in Round 10 of the NYC. After trailing 22-6 at half-time, Souths would fight back in the second half to within six points, but the Eels would hold on to take the win. It took just four minutes for the Eels to draw first blood, but not without some help courtesy of a number of penalties and handling errors from the men in Red and Green. With the Rabbitohs caught short out wide, Eels winger James Gammidge took full advantage by racing in to make it 4-0. Despite an opportunity following a penalty of their own, Souths were unable to capitalise on their good field position, coughing up the ball just metres before the line. But the Eels would have no such issues. Just 12 minutes into proceedings, the Eels were in again following a short-ball to backrower Jack Morris, who barged his way over. Halfback Michael Doolan converted to make it 10-0 in favour of the home-side. Parra’s other back-rower, Tyrrell Fuimaono, would pick up a try of his own moments later to make it 16-0 with Doolan’s conversion. With 10 minutes in the opening stanza remaining, a well-weighted kick inside the 10 metre line sparked a contest between Parramatta’s fullback and Liam Coleman, with the Rabbitoh winning the race to open the Club’s account. Neihana Walters converted from right in front to make it 16-6. With the clock winding down in the first half, the Rabbitohs came close to scoring on two occasions, only to be denied both times by some desperate Parramatta defence. The home-side’s desperation in defence and patience with the ball would yield one more try before the siren though, with Bevan French taking advantage of an odd bounce of the ball to plant down the pill 10 metres in from touch. Doolan converted to take the half-time score to 22-6. On the resumption, Parramatta continued to dominate when Dean Matterson completed a set of sustained pressure to grab a four-pointer out wide – Doolan’s conversion making the score 28-6. Souths would hit back through Tom Perrin, who would take a brilliant offload out wide before proceeding to score in the corner to narrow the gap to 28-10. And before long, SG Ball graduate, Cam Murray, would power his way over next to the posts for the men in Red and Green. Walters would add the extras to make it 28-16. The Souths comeback continued just 11 minutes from full-time, when Kalani Ili stepped the Parramatta defence at close range to cross the line for a try – Walters converting to make a game of it at 28-22. The men in Red and Green threw everything they could at the Eels as they looked to equalise the match. But despite momentum seemingly shifting in their favour, it would be the Eels who take the match by 28-22.

0WIN 23-22
Late Changes - Walker, Talakai and Asotasi were out. Miski starts center, Murphy five-eighth, Tasi second row and Syme and Booth on the bench.
An Eli Levido field goal on the full-time siren handed the North Sydney Bears a dramatic 23-22 victory, against their archrivals, the Manly Sea Eagles, at North Sydney Oval. It was an game that saw next to nothing happen in the opening 50 minutes, but that all changed with Tom Hughes scoring one of the tries of the year, followed by the teams going try-to-try until the clutch field-goal at the end of the match. The Bears completely dominated the battle of field position in the early stages of the game, and were rewarded with a try to Abbas Miski, who finished off a beautiful set piece off the scrum. A wonderful ball by Eli Levido towards the opposite sideline created an opportunity for Tevita Coterell, who made no mistake in planting the ball down and increasing their lead to 10-0. The Sea Eagles notched up their first try of the game early in the second half when James Tuitahi made a dart down the right sideline, threw a hail-mary pass that hit the turf and was scooped up by a runaway Ben Fritz, who evaded various defenders to find the line. In what could be described as a relatively dour opening 50 minutes to the game, Bears’ winger Tom Hughes put the North Sydney locals on the feet with a marvellous effort. As he charged for the corner, he spectacularly jumped, twisted and turned; somehow planting the ball in the process and increasing their lead to 16-6. Dylan Kelly put his mark on the match by bursting through the line shortly afterwards, then passing the ball for an unmarked Harlan Collins to run away and score. It seemed that Hughes had done it again in the 60th minute, but lighting never strikes twice in the same spot, with the touch judge ruling him to have stepped out in the process of scoring. Almost immediately afterwards, the Sea Eagles marched up-field with the assistance of a penalty, and it was Fritz’s turn to athletically dive in the corner to score an incredible try. Hugh Pratt’s sideline conversion was good, which meant the Sea Eagles led for the first time in the match 18-16. That lead was short-lived however, as the Bears gained field position thanks to a Liam Knight error, only for interchange forward Eden Syme to barge his way through a hole to score. Back-to-back penalties gave the Sea Eagles another chance to score, and that is exactly what they did through Collins, who showed tremendous strength to score his second try and lock the scores up at 22-all. With less than 10 seconds remaining, Eli Levido lined up for a field goal, and with the sound of the siren in the background, he snapped the 35-metre victory-clinching point, handing the Bears a dramatic victory.
