LOSS 12-30
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have gone down to the Parramatta Eels by 30-12 in Round 15 of the NRL this evening (Friday) at ANZ Stadium. Missing Origin representatives and first choice halves-pairing, Adam Reynolds and Greg Inglis, but bolstered by the surprise inclusion of John Sutton, the Rabbitohs were unable to get the points despite a gallant effort. It was all the Rabbitohs in the opening five minutes of play, with the new-look side forcing multiple repeat sets and showing good early signs. But a dropped-ball 15 metres out from the try-line would release the pressure-valve, allowing Parramatta to march up-field. But an Eels error just one set later in virtually the same position, gifted the Rabbitohs another opportunity. The side would make no mistake this time, with Cody Walker sending a speedy Alex Johnston in for the first try of the night. Walker added the extras to make it 6-0. As the mid-way point of the first-half approached, a penalty against the Rabbitohs for a strip with more than one man in the tackle set the Eels up for a perfect opportunity close to the line, and Clint Gutherson would take full advantage. Michael Gordon converted to square the game up at six apiece. At the 20 minute mark, a penalty to the Eels 32 metres out and 10 metres in from touch saw Gordon opt to take the shot at goal. Gordon would make no mistake to give the Eels a two-point lead at 8-6. The Eels would turn momentum firmly in their own direction when they went down their right-hand-side and came up with a try through centre, Bevan French, who bettered the position to allow Gordon to slot the next conversion to make it 14-6. With the clock winding down in the first half, Johnston would burst through the middle of the park before offloading to a flying Nathan Brown, who raced the remaining 20 metres to score under the posts – his first NRL try. Walker added the extras to make it 14-12 going into the sheds. Just four minutes into the second stanza, Dane Nielsen fired a warning shot for the Rabbitohs when he finished off a second-man-play out wide to come within millimetres of scoring. But The Bunker would deny the Queenslander upon review – replays revealing Nielsen’s foot touching the side-line. But momentum was about to shift again, with the Eels receiving two penalties and three repeat sets in quick succession to put the Rabbitohs under immense pressure on their own line. But the Red and Green defence would hold strong, until an error coming off their own line would gift French his second try of the night out wide. Gordon converted to make it 20-12. The Eels would move further ahead when a penalty against the Rabbitohs for dissent gifted the fullback a shot at penalty-goal to make it 22-12. The ensuing kick-off would see the Eels penalised for passing the ball forward in-goal, gifting Souths an opportunity in prime attacking position at just 10 metres out. But the men in Red and Green weren’t able to capitalise. Another penalty-goal to Gordon before a rampaging Semi Radradra ran virtually the length of the field following an intercept to score.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs NYC (under 20s) side has gone down to the Parramatta Eels by 22-16 at ANZ Stadium. The difference would prove to be the kicking of Eels fullback, Michael Doolan, whose five goals – including two penalty-goals – managed to sink the men in Red and Green. Despite an evenly matched opening to proceedings that saw the Rabbitohs put the Eels under all-sorts of pressure on their own line with back-to-back repeat-sets, it would be Parramatta who would open the scoring through Jermaine Mati-Leifi. Michael Doolan converted from the touch-line to make it 6-0. Not long afterwards, the Eels backed the effort up with their second, courtesy of lock-forward, Tom Amone, who hit a short-ball at speed to crash over next to the posts. Doolan added the extras with ease to make it 12-0 in favour of the blue and golds. Eight minutes from the break, a penalty to the Eels 10 metres out from the try-line saw Doolan take the opportunity to kick his team a further two points ahead to take the score to 14-0 heading into the sheds. On the resumption, Campbell Graham hit back for the men in Red and Green when he finished off a slick back-line movement that saw the Eels outnumbered on the short-side to make it 14-4. Chad O’Donnell did likewise with 10 minutes in the second half gone, when a kick ricocheted into the half’s hands before he strode through untouched before converting his own try to make it 14-10. But the Eels would have none of it, with back-rower Jack Morris taking control back for the visitors with his close-range effort – Doolan converting to take the score out to 20-16. Souths would get back on the board though shortly afterwards when centre, Latrell Robinson, burst through the blue and gold defensive line before streaking some 55 metres to score under the posts. O’Donnell converted to again narrow the gap to 20-16. Doolan would again take an opportunity to kick a penalty-goal though to make it 22-16 with 14 minutes in the match remaining.

LOSS 6-14
Late Changes - Saumamao, Booth and Dokinavalu were out. Devon Makaore-Boyce starts fullback, Schaumkel wing, Grienki prop, Gosiewski second row, Siekja and Coleman on the bench.
A double to Josh Addo-Carr - including a jaw-dropping effort late in the game - has highlighted a low-scoring affair at North Sydney Oval, as the Wests Tigers have overcome the North Sydney Bears 14-6 to earn two valuable competition points. Both sides entered this clash with a raft of late changes and it set up for an intriguing contest. Tigers’ key men Justin Hunt, Jack Littlejohn and Jackson Williams were all late withdrawals and were replaced by Jayden Wheelhouse, Veiru Mapesone and Bayley Sironen respectively. For the Bears, Tulsa Saumamao was omitted along with Jokatama Dokinavalu and Angus Crichton from the North Sydney Bench, replaced by Devon Makaore-Boyce at fullback, Brett Greinke and the returning Jack Gosiewski in the second row. It was the visitors who would cross first, with a try to the returning Addo-Carr coming in the 13th minute. The left-side winger, who has mostly impressed in his five-games at the top level, was the beneficiary of a well-executed movement to his edge early, finishing it with a classy put-down. With the conversion missed from the sideline, the Tigers kept a four-point lead early on. The game then entered into what can only be described as a dour contest, with both sides giving up possession at key times on their opposition's tryline. Both sides, to their credit, were bruising in defence and ensured the scoreline remained 4-0 until the half-time break. Two reinvigorated sides appeared to come out of the sheds in the second stanza and Tigers custodian Watson Heleta managed to turn defence into attack when he picked up a Bears' dropped ball just metres out from his own line. He was pulled down 60 metres downfield, but the visitors were unable to make the most of their momentum. More points finally came 10 minutes later when a right-side play finally paid dividends for the Wests Tigers; the ball passed through five sets of hands to find Wheelhouse, who crossed in the corner. Once again the conversion missed and the Tigers led 8-0. The game had opened up with visibly quicker play-the-balls and lateral movement, and soon enough Latrell Schaumkel used it to his advantage. The usual fullback, who had been shifted to the left wing, combined with Ed Murphy for a 50-metre break, before the ball was shifted to the opposite side the following play. Gosiewski broke through a scrambling Tigers defence to score under the posts, with the Eli Levido conversion bringing the score to 8-6. Schaumkel made another break off the ensuing kick-off, almost returning it to the 50-metre line, leaving no doubt that momentum was with the home side. In the 73rd minute, however, Addo-Carr again impressed to score completely against the run of play. Taking a bomb on his own 20-metre line, the speedster broke one tackle and bamboozled the defence to step and dance his way to the tryline basically untouched; while he progressed 80 metres downfield in the effort, he would have run at least 100 and still had the pace to finish off a fantastic effort. Mapesone slotted the conversion from out wide and the visitors reached a 14-6 advantage. Despite the Bears regathering the following kick-off, the score would remain that way with the Tigers securing an important win.
