2025 - The Cyber View from the Hill

6th Aug 2025

Spoon Bowl

9 losses in a row and a new losing streak record for master coach Wayne Bennett. He is struggling under the injury crisis with a disasterous outing up in Brisbane. The weekend saw South Sydney equal their record worst defence across three grades in one weeke with 156 points, eqalling the 2004 Round 23 weekend. 2025 is turning out to be one of our worst on record for the club with our senior teams currently first grade last, reserve grade last and U21s running second last. Now for the last verses second last in the 2025 spoon bowl up in Robina.

Captain Arrow

Jai Arrow has been one of the work horses in our team all season. Playing second row or prop, he does a mountain in defence and attack. And plays from the heart. On the weekend he was rewarded as being named club catain, something he desrves.

S.Mitchell and Myers to move on

A number of players have been told their services won't be required in 2026, with big Shaq Mitchell and Fletcher Myers being two players who won't be with us in 2026. With our poor run with injuries and our position on the tables across three grades, they won't be the last. The Top 30 plus 6 structure means we cannot carry players like in the old days, unless they accept a NSWRL level contract.

Fong 4 Tries

In poor day out for our U21s team, one shinning light was the return of Jacob Fong who found his way to the try line not onec, twice, three but four times. He has a great turn of speed and a great finishing skills for a left winger. Looking forward to seeing more of this U19 player who is stepping up in 2025.

O'Brien and Church score doubles

It was a very tough encountered for our womens team on the weekend, but they are our shinning light in a dreary season. Our two centres Kasha Church and Rebecca O'Brien are turning into a force out wide and working very well with our dominate halves. On the weekend both scored a double, as the team pushed into the Top 5.

Pacific Championship regular planning success

It was great to see the Pacific Championship becoming a regular event on the international calender. The Pacific region continues to grow in strength with these events, and throw in the 2025 Kangaroo tour of England and the Rugby League World Cup final qualifiers, and we have a bumper festival of international rugby league.

Round 22 - Stat Attack

Statistically it was a very poor game. Completions dropped to 76% from 80% last week. Errors dropped to 12 from 11 last week. We gave away 3 penalties and 5 6-again calls from 15 last week. Souths Effective 1st tackle improved to a poor level of 44.2m from 47.1m last week. Our missed tackles dropped to a very poor level of 44 from 36 last week. Opposition offloads dropped to 10 from 8 last week.

Looking at our left side defence - Johnston-Duncan-Dodd-Aitken (3-3-3-3) dropped to 12 from 10 missed tackles last week. On the right side BentleyHape-Tass-Ward-Host/Fletcher (4-1-5-4) dropped to 14 from 13 last week. Ruck defence Arrow/LeBlanc-RGray/Havili-Keppie/Fletcher-Hubner/Arrow (4-1-4-6) dropped to 15 from 13 missed tackles last week.

Our go forward improved to 1271m from 1260m last week. With our props go forward improved to a poor level of 333m compared to 224m last week. No one made 10+m per run. Arrow, Keppie, JGray, Duncan, BentleyHape and Johnston made 100+m in the match. Defensively Arrow was our best in the tackling raking up 36 tackles. R.Gray and Munro didn't miss a tackle.
