LOSS 14-60
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have been defeated 60-14 by the Brisbane Broncos in what was a difficult night for the Red and Green. With a slew of regular starters out injured and suspended, the Rabbitohs were up against it from the get-go. Jye Gray was a standout performer for South Sydney, running for a team high of 166m, making 7 tackle breaks and a line break along the way. Unfortunately, this was not enough to get South Sydney home, with try doubles to Kotoni Staggs, Deine Mariner and Ezra Mam putting the game out of reach. It was a tough start for South Sydney, with Ryan Gray leaving the field in the 9th minute due to a shoulder complaint, being replaced by Siliva Havili in the dummy half position. The Broncos made life tougher for the Rabbitohs just six minutes later when they scored the first try of the game through Ezra Mam with a long-range effort. Brisbane got their second try through Jack Gosiewski, who regathered an Adam Reynolds grubber kick in behind the line. Reynolds slotted the conversion, putting his side ahead 12-0 after 26 minutes. The Rabbitohs managed to open their account in the latter stages of the first half, with Bayleigh Bentley-Hape leaping high above Selwyn Cobbo to gather in a high kick from Lewis Dodd for a try on the right side of the field. The kick went wide from Isaiah Tass, leaving the Rabbitohs trailing 12-4. The Red and Green were unfortunately unable to keep the momentum, with Kotoni Staggs scoring just minutes before halftime to put the lead back to 18-4. South Sydney managed to find a way to hit back seconds before the break with a play that went through seven sets of hands, from the right edge to the left, and finished off by Tallis Duncan who crashed over at left centre. It was a great effort by South Sydney, and highlighted their fighting spirit and desire to compete on every play, despite the plethora of top-line players sitting in the stands due to injury and suspension. Once again the kick unfortunately went askew, leaving South Sydney trailing 18-8 at the break.
The second half couldn’t have started in a worse way for the Rabbitohs, who conceded a try against the run of play to Cobbo off the back of an incredibly unfortunate error in just their first set of the half. The Broncos kept applying the pressure, with Deine Mariner next to cross the stripe for the home side as they reached the 30-point mark in the 49th minute. Brisbane then began to pile on the points with two quick fire tries to Ben Talty and Mariner for his second in the 54th and 56th minutes respectively. The tries unfortunately kept on coming for the home side. Staggs and Mam both completed their doubles, scoring in quick succession in the 63rd and 66th minutes respectively. The Rabbitohs managed a consolation try in the in the 70th minute. It was Bentley-Hape who set it up, making a big 60m run to get his side into an attacking position. From there South Sydney had the benefit of attacking a disjointed Brisbane defence, with Lachlan Hubner finding a gap to capitalise on the situation. Brisbane though would have the last laugh, with Reece Walsh crossing for the final try of the game in the 78th minute, as the Reynolds conversion saw the Broncos crack 60, putting an end to what was a tough night at the office for the Rabbitohs.

LOSS 4-52
Late Changes - Munro, Dodd and Mamouzelos are out. Kalo Kalo starts on the wing, Quinn at five-eighth Humphries at half, Ngatikaura at hooker, Kelso on the bench. Mihinui was the concussion sub. Despite the heavy conditions at a rain-soaked Kellyville Park, the Eels’ march towards a top-three finish in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup continued at the expense of a weakened South Sydney side, following their 52-4 win this afternoon. The win was set up by an imposing first-half performance from the Eels who capitalised ruthlessly on Souths’ errors and ill-discipline to lead 34-0 despite the appalling conditions. An early shift inside Souths’ 20-metre zone proved fruitful for the home side early on when winger Haze Dunster crossed over in the northeast corner in the third minute, converted by fullback Te Hurinui Twidle from the touchline. Off the back of two penalties and a six-again call inside Souths’ 20, Dunster soon had a double for the afternoon when he finished off another slick back-line movement to slide over again in the northeast corner in the 16th minute. With Twidle again converting from the sideline, the Eels doubled their lead to 12. Parramatta’s early territorial and possession dominance continued to produce points when five-eighth Lorenzo Talataina showed considerable pace from the scrum win inside Souths’ 20 to slice through the gap and score to the right of the uprights to give the home side a 18-0 lead after 21 minutes of play. Parramatta’s forwards were dominating up the middle and off the back of another strong set, back-rower Kelma Tuilagi found space out on the right edge, kicked ahead and grounded the ball to score in the northeast corner to push the lead out to 22 after 26 minutes. The point-scoring spree in the first half continued when a quick play-the-ball short of the Souths try-line enabled hooker Joey Lussick to dive over from dummy-half to give the Eels an imposing 28-0 lead in just 34 minutes of play. Yet another Souths error inside their own 20 proved to be telling when the Eels constructed another try from a scrum win when Talataina floated a cut-out pass for an unmarked Bailey Simonsson to score in the northwest corner, with Twidle again converting from the touchline to send the home side into the sheds leading 34-0 at the main break. It didn’t take the hosts long to open their account in the second half either when Eels half Ronald Volkman slapped the ball out left for Tago to catch and pass to Simonsson to acrobatically cross over for arguably one of the tries of the afternoon to score his second to put Parramatta further in front 38-0 after just 45 mins. It went from bad to worse for the Rabbitohs when the Eels scored from the next set, courtesy of a long-range break from Tuilagi who found centre Richard Penisini in support to score out wide to push the margin out to 42 points in the 48th minute. Simonsson soon had his hat-trick finishing off another slick Eels back-line movement with Talataina again instrumental in the lead-up to push Parramatta towards 50, leading 46-0 after 54 minutes. It took just another seven minutes for the Eels to bring up 50 unanswered points when Simonsson this time turned provider, making a break down the eastern touchline before lobbing the ball back inside for Twidle to join the try-scoring list, converted this time by Volkman. The Rabbitohs finally opened their account in the 74th minute when Ruatapu Laurence Ngatikura reached out from dummy-half to score out wide with half Matthew Humphries unable to convert, to provide the final score-line 52-4 in favour of the Eels.

LOSS 18-44
Late Changes - Rugless and Quinn are out. Tovio starts at centre, Taylor at five-eighth. Featherstone is the concussion sub. Nosa dropped off the bench. Parramatta openned the scoring through a crash ball try near our line. South Sydney failed to find touch froma penalty and few tackles later Parramatta were in a agin in the corner. A mountain of possession a freakish nehind the back pass from Poynton saw Wright send Fong oer out wide. Parramatta caught South Sydney napping down the blindside to score again. South Sydney hit back on the stroke of half time with a well placed grubber that saw Fong score his second. Halftime 8 to 16. The half was only a few minutes old when Parramatta once again attacked down the blind side to score. Parramatta were in again out wide on the right from a set scrum play. They were in a again in back to back tries a few minutes later. South Sydney hit back once they finally got the ball of a Short Kickoff with Fong was on the end of a backline move in the corner. But it wasn't long before Parramatta were in again out wide. As they heavy rain kept coming down Parramatta were in again with a break up the middle. A great kickoff gives South Sydney the ball and Fong is in for his 4th of the afternoon over a nice backline sweep.

NSWRL Womens Premiership - Round 5
v Canterbury-Bankstown, Redfern Oval, Sat Aug 2nd 10:30am [BAR TV]
WIN 20-14
Late Changes - Dumas is out. Manu starts at second row. Smede is the concussion sub. Barrett, Hopoate and Mahanga dropped off the bench. South Sydney open the scoring when O'Brien cross out wide A nice blind side run saw Yaranumua setup Church for the Rabbitohs second try out wide. The Dogs hit back with a try out wide. In the dying stages of the half McGregir grubbers in goal for O'Brien to score her second try. Halftime 14 to 4. After the break it was the Dogs through weight of possession finally score next to the posts. After a period of intense pressure a great kick by Yaranamua gave the Rabbitohs field position and Church crashed over for her second of the afternoon. A huge amount of possession saw the Dogs throw everything including the kiutchen sink before they final crossed. But the Rabbitohs hold on in a outstanding defensive display to win 20 to 14.
