One time South Sydney premiership winning squad member in 1908.
Hanna a former Waterloo and Alexandria rugby union player, he followed former team mates Arthur and Harry Butler to Rugby League. He had been involved in a significant on field incident the year before, where he pleaded guilty to assalting a referee in a Alexandria RU fixture and sentance to two months hard labour. He initially playing Second Grade with South Sydney. Hanna was called up from second grade, to make his South Sydney first grade debut in the 1908 Round 3 first grade clash against Cumberland at the RAS Showground. He was a hooker, called up to replace Hennessy who was called into the Australian team. He scored a try on debut, as one of the only two scorers reported in the newspaper. This was his only first grade appearance.
Hanna played only 1 season with South Sydney in 1908. He only played 1 first grade club and premiership game for South Sydney. Overall he only played 3 senior grade club and premiership games for South Sydney.
