Tale of Two Halves
What a game. It was a classic game of two halves against the 4 time premiers. The first half was our best effort snce 2018 as everything clicked as we put on 5 unanswered tries. We had Penrith rattled. Then the loss of AJ at halftime with another backline shuffle and the Premiers coming out on fire after the break, saw us put in a very poor second half. It will be important that we turn 40 minute efforts into 80 minute efforts as we start getting troops back. Now for a proper weekend home game against our arch rivals.
Keaon Double
Keaon Koloamatangi is slowing developing a combination with Cody on the left edge. This week he was awarded the NSW Player of of the Week in his efforts scoring two tries. One from a perfectly placed kick behind the line by Cody. He looks to have overcome his ankle injury from last year, as he regains his rythm after a rep off season, now on the left edge.
Welcome back Trell
Its been a very long 9 months, since July 3 to be exact. But this week we finally get to see Latrell Mitchell do what he does best perform on the field. Welcome back, he is a very welcome addition to the team as we continue to plug new injury holes. Slow and steady will be the key as the last thing we need is re-injury, which has been a trend in 2025.
Ward takes control
Ashton Ward was given the captaincy this week. It was very evident in the last 20 minutes of the match as he took control of the team to try and get South Sydney back into the game. Scoring a try which setup up for a unlikely late challenge. While still a U21s level player he is warming to task at reserve grade level.
Frame double
In a reshuffled team, Riley FRame was called upon to play almost a full 80 minutes when Billy Sprague went down with a knee injury. He put in a big performance at hooker scoring two tries, keeping the team with striking distance of the opposition.
Keung turns game
U19s had a rare off game this week looking down a possible loss coming off the bye against a fit raring to go big Warriors pack. It took some outstanding work by big prop Elijah Keung who through strong running, scored a try by going straight over the top of the opposition lifting the team back into the contest. The draw cemented our finals appearance for 2025, as we maintain 2nd spot on the ladder with 1 game to go in the regular season
U17 Last minute loss
After getting back into game with 2 minutes to and taking the lead, it was a heartbreaking loss on the bell for our U17 team. Our second narrow loss has seen us drop out of the Top 6, needing to win and potentially win well to make the finals in the final round.
30 years since Super League
Its been 30 years since the famous April 1st 1995 raid was launched by Super League. We look back at the "vision". Well have yet to break into the Chinese market, in fact the PNG 18th team is to stop Chinese expansion into the Pacific. A second Brisbane team has returned, Gold Coast returned, South Sydney returned and even the Bears & Perth are on the verge of returning. This year we see the return of the Kangaroo Tour, while the Pacific is dominating international rugby league. Something basically shutdown during the SL War. The English and French game continues to go backwards under the Super League banner. While in the NRL the 4 proposed mergers from the Super League war not working as planned. Proposed Cronulla/Souths merger sees both clubs in a strong position as stand alone entities. The Northern Eagles have demerged. Wests-Tigers are in constant bickering and St George-Illawarra is far from rosy. The Pay-TV war has been replaced by the new Streaming War as the streaming giants look to break into the sporting markets across the globe, as technology changes. The Womens RL game all but ignored and shutdown during the SL War is going to levels never seen in before. While the new level of professionalism has brought new money into game, the game day experiance has dropped for the fan, as RL becomes a TV product running to a TV schedule. So 30 years on, many of the negatives have been unravled while maintaining the financial positives, and the compromise of setting up a team in Melbourne has been a success.
