LOSS 20-21 (Golden Point)
A golden point field goal by Nicho Hynes has handed the Sharks a 21-20 win over the Rabbitohs in an epic contest at PointsBet Stadium on Saturday night. After Latrell Mitchell and Matt Moylan missed five field goal shots between them it was Hynes who delivered in the 87th minute. With Siosifa Talakai running rampant and Ronaldo Mulitalo scoring one of the tries of the season the Sharks recovered from 8-0 down early to register their 13th win of the season. The Rabbitohs opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Cameron McInnes was penalised for an infringement in the play the ball and Latrell Mitchell piloted the kick for a 2-0 lead. In the 12th minute it was Alex Johnston crossing for his 22nd try of the season to take Souths out to an 8-0 lead. Souths winger Alex Johnston moved into the top 10 all-time on the premiership tryscoring list with his first four-pointer. Then Connor Tracey hit back for the home side in the 20th minute. A dropped ball by Souths winger Jaxson Paulo in the 27th minute handed the Sharks a chance to hit the lead but Aiden Tolman made a mistake in the play the ball to let the Rabbitohs off the hook. 30th minute saw Jed Cartwright leave the field with a hamstring injury causing a backline reschuffle, with Nikorima moving the right centre. With the Sharks mounting a raid in the 32nd minute Wade Graham was caught high by Thomas Burgess and the ensuing penalty goal to Nicho Hynes locked it up at 8-8. Three minutes before the break the Sharks had the lead when Ronaldo Mulitalo soared through the night sky to bring down a Nicho Hynes bomb for his 13th try of the season. Hynes' conversion made it 14-8. At halftime backline changes were made with Nkorima moving to fullback and Mitchell into left centre. The Rabbitohs flew out of the blocks in the second half when a perfectly placed grubber by Cody Walker was fumbled by Tracey and Mitchell pounced on the scraps to make it 14-14. A huge moment in the game with 15 minutes to play when McInnes looked to have given the home side the lead but replays showed the ball had come away from his grasp as he attempted to get it down. Andrew Fifita then stood tall for the Sharks as he carried four defenders across the line to score, evoking memories of his famous 2016 grand final try. Hynes converted for a 20-14 lead. With time running out for the Bunnies it was Keaon Koloamatangi coming up with a steal on Siosifa Talakai to hand his side one last chance and Tevita Tatola powered over next to the posts to make it 20-18 and Mitchell converted after hitting the post from in front to set up a grandstand finish. The game went to golden point and a dropped ball by Fifita in Cronulla's first set gave Mitchell a shot to win the match but he sprayed the ball well wide. Matt Moylan then had a field goal shot for the Sharks but the kick was charged down and the Bunnies worked their way down for Mitchell to have another crack from 40 metres out which he missed again. Another miss by Moylan sent the game to a second period of extra-time and a storming run by Burgess handed Mitchell a third shot at victory but he again sent it wide. More drama in the 87th minute when Burgess was sent off for a high shot on Mulitalo and the Sharks came down the field and Hynes iced the win for the Sharks.

Reserve Grade - Knock-On Effect NSW Premiership Round 20
v Newtown, Henson Park, 3:00pm
LOSS 18-42
The finals aspirations of the NSW Cup side took a massive hit on Saturday afternoon after a heavy 24-point loss to the Jets. Newton were celebrating their 2022 Beer, Footy & Food Festival, which spurred them on to overcome an early deficit. The Rabbitohs got off to a dream start and caught the Jets off-guard in the first ten minutes with two early tries. Izaac Thompson extended his lead atop of the top-try scorer leaderboard with a four-pointer in the 5th minute, shortly before Tyson Hodge doubled the lead minutes later. After going down by ten points, the Jets ignited their attack and began to flourish with a packed crowd behind them. Luke Metcalf opened the scoring for the Jets in the 20th minute, but the Rabbitohs quickly regained the momentum on the back of this. Souths were relentless with the ball in hand as they dominated the next ten minutes of play, as the Jets struggled to maintain possession. After rather unluckily not extending their lead, the Rabbitohs were punished as Caleb Uele levelled the score with ten minutes to play in the first half. Charbel Tasipale ensured the hosts would enter the break with a lead as he secured the final try of the half with under 60 seconds remaining before the break. After pulling off an unlikely comeback in the first half, the momentum was firmly shifted into the corner of the hosts as they entered the second half up by a converted try. The Rabbitohs repeated their early success of the first half as Thompson scored his second of the afternoon in the opening minutes after the restart. However, it was all one-way traffic from here as Newton turned on the Jets in attack to secure victory. Matt Ikuvalu’s try in the 49th minute restored the Jets six-point buffer as they kicked-off an exceptional spell in attack. Newton extended its lead just minutes later as Mawene Hiroti crossed over in the 54th minute, giving the Jets a 12-point lead. Two late tries from Braydon Trindall and Rhys Davies put the final nails in the coffin, as Newton emerged victorious on a memorable day for the club. It was a disappointing day for the Rabbitohs, after getting out to an impressive start they were undone by an even more impressive late showing from their opponents.

NSWRL U21 Jersey Flegg - Round 19
v Cronulla-Sutherland, Endeavour Field, 3:15pm
LOSS 16-40
The Jersey Flegg Cup side were resigned to their seventh straight loss as they were outclassed by the Sharks at Pointsbet Stadium. It was another positive start that was canceled out by a resurgence from their opposition, who ran away with the result. Deijion Leugaimafa gave the Rabbitohs the best possible start with the opening try of the contest in the sixth minute. In what has become a common theme for the Rabbitohs’ this year, they opened the scoring before conceding and going behind before the end of the first half. Tom Rodwell scored the Sharks opening try in the 11th minute, as the sides began an intense battle for what would be the next crucial try. In a near 20-minute period, both teams went back and forth in ruthless pursuit of points, but they were both up to the task defensively. It was the Sharks who would emerge victorious from this battle, as Rodwell crashed over for his second in the 28th minute. Cronulla seemingly put the result beyond doubt in the final minutes of the first half, with Samuel Stonestreet scoring and Rodwell bagging a hat-trick. Heading into the break, the Sharks held a healthy 18-point lead and were looking confident on both sides of the field. The Rabbitohs gave themselves a lifeline early in the second half, as Jaxson Rahme secured his first try of the day and reduced the deficit to just 12. Ryan Rivett’s try in the 51st minute restored the Sharks three-try lead as they yet again began to pull away with the result. Souths had one last push at a dream comeback when Leugaimafa scored his second with just 15 minutes remaining. However, the Sharks came to play in the final period of the game and continued in their pursuit for points. Stonestreet and Rodwell added to their totals for the day in the final minutes of play, as the Sharks finished off proceedings with a 24-point victory.
