Season crash comes to a end
The season ended in disappointment after the biggest fall from grace since 1982. After leading the competition after 11 rounds, the second half of the season we played like a bottom 4 team as missed the finals. There will be some serious post season reviews to understand what was the root cause. But injuries and off field dramas were a significant contributer. Now for mad monday.
Johnston Top try scorer
Congratulations to Alex Johnston who once again finished the season as our Top Try scorer with 21 tries. He now has a record 187 tries for South Sydney in first grade premiership games. And now sits in outright 3rd place on the NRL try scorers list, just 25 behind Ken Irvine.
Departing Players
As the season ended, we thank a number of players who not be with us in 2024. These include first graders Blake Taaffe, Jed Cartwright and Hame Sele.
Reserve Grade Lead the Way
After the disappointment of first grade, focus turned to our Reserve Grade team who had the opposite of first grade, winning their final 10 games of the season to win the NSWRL Reserve Grade Grand Final, and then winning the State Championship following week in a convincing manner. Departing player Blake Taaffe and Peter Mamouzelos had the honour of playing in another premiership winning team, after their 2019 U20 Jersey Flegg victory. It was a great day as the team notched up their 21st premiership victory in Reserve Grade.
