WIN 20-0

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have celebrated Junior Appreciation Round with a 20-nil victory over the Wests Tigers at Accor Stadium to rocket up to the top of the NRL Premiership ladder. The Rabbitohs were forced to work for their sixth consecutive victory in what was a low-scoring yet high-quality match that saw both sides complete over 85% in the first half alone. Winger Taane Milne scored a double, while fullback Latrell Mitchell posted eight points with a late try and four goals as the Rabbitohs kept the Wests Tigers to nil for the first time. Following a back-and-forth contest through the middle of the field, the Rabbitohs looked to unorthodox play to trouble the scoreboard as both sides completed at 100% in the first quarter of the match. Latrell Mitchell's boot earned his side a repeat set, however after Cameron Murray was denied just centimetres from the line, their first venture to the try line failed to yield points. It was a big hit that forced the first error of the match, handing the visitors possession on halfway, but once again the defensive fortitude of the Rabbitohs held strong with Taane Milne calmly collecting a threatening wayward kick. Minutes later, the winger was on the other end of the field to plant the ball over the line, scoring the opening try of the match thanks to a slick right-side movement - with Latrell Mitchell converting for a 6-nil lead. Just as the Tigers looked return serve, it was Mitchell's fingertip touch saving his side as he cleaned up another scrappy kick, before a strong tackle put the Red and Green in position to strike again. Unfortunately, Michael Chee-Kam was denied over the line, while a penalty on halfway with minutes remaining put the Red and Green under pressure as a last-gasp copybook tackle from Cameron Murray halted John Bateman. Two line dropouts saw the Rabbitohs defending their line to end the first stanza, doing enough to hold off the Tigers and keep their slender 6-nil lead intact as the sides headed into the sheds. Both sides returned to the field with plenty of conviction as South Sydney looked to trouble their opponents out wide with Cody Walker at the forefront, however, it was a penalty goal that was the next scoring play after Murray was hit high. The bounce of the ball went the way of the Tigers from the kick-off, but Mitchell's smarts were on show as he duped Bateman into making an error, with the Tigers wasting a Captain's Challenge in the process. Alex Johnston and Campbell Graham found themselves in the clear thanks to some superb ball-playing, and while their off-the-cuff kicks threatened the defence, the Rabbitohs continued to search for their second try as the match entered its final quarter. Staford To'A found himself over the line soon after, but the scramble defence once again shone through to deny the centre on fifth tackle, while Lachlan Ilias saved the day by pouncing on the Steeden following a linebreak from Luke Brooks. Campbell Graham continued to prove dangerous on the right edge, and after finding an offload following a strong run, Latrell Mitchell put Milne over for his second, with the fullback giving a 14-nil lead with six minutes remaining. Mitchell then found himself on the board moments after as the rampaging Rabbitohs trampled downfield to stretch out and score as the Red and Green claimed a 20-nil victory in front of 21,013 Members and supporters. The victory marked the Rabbitohs' eighth of the 2023 season and sixth in succession, rocketing them to the top of the table.

Reserve Grade - Knock-On Effect NSW Premiership Round 11

v Western Suburbs, 12:40pm [Foxtel/Kayo]

WIN 26-22

Late Changes - Rahme is out. Gordon starts at prop, Chapman at lock, B.Gray and Duncan on the bench, Hardman is the concussion sub. A 20-point turnaround in the second half - including a hat-trick to winger Izaac Tu’itupou Thompson- saw the Rabbitohs claim a remarkable victory against the Western Suburbs Magpies at Accor Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Staring down the barrel of a seventh loss for season 2023, the Red and Green had a mountain to climb in the second 40 when trailing 22-2, with just a penalty goal to their name – before a barnstorming Ethan O’Neill crashed over to put his side on the board. Fullback Blake Taaffe supplied Tu’itupou Thompson with the next four-pointer just five minutes later, before the Rabbitohs swung the pill left for fellow winger Tom Carr to cross with the difference narrowed down to a single converted try. Tu’itupou Thompson was at it again to make it four tries in fifteen minutes as the Rabbitohs continued their rampage, and while a few chances went begging heading in the shadows of full-time, the towering winger bagged his hat-trick with an acrobatic effort to seal the famous victory in the 77th minute.

NSWRL U21 Jersey Flegg - Round 10

v Wests-Tigers, Mascot Oval, Sun May 14 3:00pm

WIN 24-20

Late Changes - Saldanha and Bray are out. Jinks starts at centre and Hawe-De-Thierry is the concussion sub. In a similar fashion, the Jersey Flegg Cup Rabbitohs fought back from a deficit to storm home and claim a valuable two points at Mascot Oval on Mother’s Day, and now sit in fifth position on the ladder as the competition nears its halfway mark. The sides traded four-pointers throughout the first half with Samuel Jinks and Thomas Fletcher touching down for a 10-all scoreline, before the visitors struck first in the second stanza to take a six-point lead with half an hour remaining. Not to be deterred, the Red and Green swung momentum with an almighty ten-minute period that saw three tries scored, courtesy of interchange back Dane Towns, five-eighth Jye Gray and winger Tyrone Munro. Meanwhile, a young forward, Taine Woodford, celebrated a return to Rugby League on his 21st birthday following a brave battle with cancer.
