Disaster at Gosford
With all of the focus on Round 1 and the trip to Las Vegas, with 25 players getting prepared to head over, and injuries already mounting up, the team we fielded this week looked more like a fringe reserve grade trial match. But it ended up being a disaster at Gosford as South Sydney recorded their worst ever defeat in any grade. We fielded too many players who were not ready to play at the higher standard against a strong opposition. To let in 68 unanswered points, and with some poor defence in the juniors is highlighting that we have a lot of work to do as a club in defence, both a individual level and as a team.
Munro Collarbone again
Tyrone Munro looks to have injured his collarbone once again, with reports of a rebreak. He did this injured back at the start of last season when playing in U19s. The training injury will set him in desire to cement a first grade position, as it will take time to heal. With Graham and Thompson both on the sideline our backline depth is already being tested.
Petrus double
Chris Petrus has been given a opportunity during the week and made the most of it scoring a double on U17s debut. He has performed will in the trail and continues to put pressure on the rest of the team.
U17 Girls Need Disapline
Our U17s were extremely unlucky to loose being held up on 3 occassions and missing out a few other opportunities. But in the end after leading early in ended up being disapline that cost us the game with girls in the sin bin and a high penalty count against us. I love the enthusiam but we will need to control out agression.
Poor Trial Planning
I am not sure what happenned with the Manly trial in Gosford, but we had issues. Firstly with everyone leaving for Vegas, the Gosford trail should have played more ofthe first grade saud for a 20 to 40 minute hitout. If this was never the plan, then playing a NRL was not the way to play a fringe reserve grade trial. This is the sort of game you play against a NSW Cup or Country division. The scoreline was a embaresment to the club, players involved and a poor look in the press and to our loyal Central Coast fan base who paid to attend the trial.
