Dawn of a new Era
It has been a long off season, but with a new hope for the upcoming season. Reports of the pre-season have been tough for the team, with body shapes improving. 2025 looks to be a very different style of play with a mobile pack, looking to set the foundation, rather than a big pack as we have had in the past. While this will work well against the bottom half of the competition, it may struggle against the likes of Penrith and Melbourne. But time will tell. We are one year on from the Gosford masacre trial, so we wait and see if the team can show the improvements needed on the field to be a force once again. Let the season begin.
New Players on Show
With so many players out through injury, suspension and on representative duties this week, we get to see firsthand the new group of players that have been brought into the club. Casey a centre trying to show his ability while Graham is on the injured list. Penitani the lead contender for one of right wing position. Humphreys and Dodd our new halves. McCarthy and Hubner our new back rowers. While we will see a host of new faces on the bench, with U19s captain Matt Humphries also being given an opportunity to gain experience.
U19's Competition Leaders
2 from 2 for our U19s as we top the competition table. While rusty down in Melbourne, it was a tough ask, and the team continues to impress. This week it was the Kuscu and Fong show. Kuscu had a huge game scoring 2 tries and running over 250m. Not to be out done Fong also scored 2 tries taking his tally to 4 in 2 weeks. There is a lot to like about this squad.
U17's 2 from 2
A strong first half set the platform for another victory by our U17 boys. Our new arrangements with the Victorian academy made this a spiteful encounter, as the big Storm team hit back, before some eyes up football saw prop Mailangi score what was the match winner. Now for our real test in a top table clash this weekend.
McGregor Show
It was the Kiara McGregor show on the weekend as she kicked South Sydney U19s team to the first victory on the weekend. From carefully placed kicks on the 5th tackle to attacking kicks that keep the opposition pinned down, two attacking kicks that resulted in 2 tries, one from a bomb. The girls get a week off this week as they inch back up the table.
Hush Hush We're having a trial
Clubs seem to be struggling to arrange lower grade trials in 2025. From games being hastily arranged midweek, to clubs cancelling hit outs, we seem to be seeing a trend of oppose sessions rather than trials becoming a new norm in the pre-season. Throw on top of the fact that trial or development game results are no longer communicated, it has become a new trend of hush hush we are having a trial.
