J.Humphreys and Bindi Odo have dropped out of the squad 24 hours before the game. Lehmann and Kaho have been added to the bench.
A significant 1.5 hour delay occurred in the match when a patron required urgent medical attention. However the onsite medical staff and ambulance needed to depart with the patron. A appeal was then made to patrons for a replacement medical offcial attending the game, so the game could resume. Kickoff finally occurred at 5:10pm. The NRL has launched an investigation into the matter, as the home team(South Sydney) is responsible for providing medial services.
LOSS 24-34
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have suffered a defeat at the hands of the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in their first match of the 2025 NRL Pre Season Challenge. It was a tough afternoon for the Rabbitohs, who unfortunately conceded seven tries to four in what wound up being a 34-24 loss at Industree Group Stadium on the Central Coast. The Sea Eagles proved particularly tough to handle out wide for the South Sydney defenders, with both Sea Eagles wingers Navren Willett and Raymond Tuaimalo Vaega crossing for doubles through the game. The early exchanges saw both sides on the attack for prolonged periods of time, with neither able to make the most of their opportunities. Despite the slow start, it was the Sea Eagles who managed to trouble the scorers first, capitalising on a spate of six-again calls which saw them march down the field and cross in the corner through Willett for his first try in the 21st minute. The Sea Eagles maintained their onslaught as the first half rolled on, increasing their lead in the 28th minute through Willett again, who completed a double off a deceptive short-side play close to the South Sydney line. A series of South Sydney errors and penalties saw the Sea Eagles receive more possession in attacking territory. They capitalised with their third try of the afternoon, this time through Aaron Schoupp. It was not all doom and gloom for the Red and Green, who managed a crucial hit back through Jye Gray, who pounced on an Ashton Ward chip kick to score just minutes before the break. Captain Isaiah Tass then slotted the two points in his first game since sustaining an ankle injury in May last year, which saw South Sydney trailing by 16-6 at halftime.
The second half started in similar fashion to the first, with an extended softening-up period with opportunities for both sides, before the Sea Eagles broke the game open with a double to Raymond Tuaimalo Vaega, who scored tries in both the 51st and 58th minutes. The Sea Eagles side kept making things tough for South Sydney, with Jake Simpkin pressing the issue with a 61st minute try, followed by Clayton Faulalo opening his account three minutes later to put the game beyond doubt. Despite being out of the contest, South Sydney were able to draw the scores closer towards the end of the game, scoring three consecutive tries in the last six minutes, with Salesi Ataata, Sean Keppie scoring at short range. While a length of the field effort by Casey saw Bayleigh Bentley-Hape cross the stripe to make the final score 34-24.

WIN 22-8
Late Changes - Simms and De Giorgio were out. O'Brien started on the wing, Aufai-Farani at second row. J.Rooke is the concussion sub. Taukafa dropped off the benh. It was a top of table clash as unbeated south Sydney took on the undfeated competition leaders Western Suburbs at home. Penalty gave Wests a early chance, which they took when they spun the ball out wide to score. Wests were all over South Sydney but South Sydney strong 2025 defence stood fast. Finally late in the half South Sydney got a chance up the other end of the field and a nicely worked move saw Tarau send Lester over out wide. And it was 4 all at the break. An error early in the second half gave South Sydney a opportunity and Bateup took the chance from dummy half. Soon after, halfback Davies was sent to the sin bin for a professional foul. But South Sydney would not be denied today. Bateup charged down a Wests kick, regathered and ran 50 meters to score. South Sydney, allowed the kickoff the bounce and Wests regathered and then spread the ball to score out wide, a failed conversion and South Sydney have a narrow lead 16 to 8. Wests lost their halfback when he was sent off for a dangerous tackle. Now back on even terms, South Sydney scored their second try with 12 men when Mailangi hit the blindside to score. Strong second half defensive display saw us remain undefeated, winning 22-8. And after 3 from 3, South Sydney are competition leaders in the U17 Matthews Cup.

Late Changes - Team was 1-17. Moses was the concussion sub. Melbourne opened the scoring at the first opportunity. After some runs by Kuscu, it was Alavarez who stepped and reached out to level the scores. Humphries setup a nice ball to see Tovio crash over as South Sydney took the lead 10 to 6. Strong defence bustled Storm into errors. South Sydney now started attacking the Storm behind the ruck with great effect, and Keung who only just got on the field, crash over to score. Melbourne hit back with a break behind the ruck. Some sloppy goal-line dummy half work, saw the Storm capitalise and take the lead. Humphries had a late shot at fieldgoal which hit the upright but the score remained 16 to 18 as the teams headed into the break. South Sydney regained the lead immediately after the break off a great scrum move that saw Kuscu score in the corner. After some nice right-side blind side running, Humphries bombed to the left wing and Fong falls on a dropped ball to score. Nice short pass by Humphries sees Kuscu break the line and score his second under the posts. With Logan in the sin bin for a dangerous tackle, the Storm hit back out wide against 12 men. The lead was down to 8 points after a failed conversion. A controlling kick by Humpries forced a goal-line dropout. At the death, the Storm short drop out sees Jennings gather and send Fong to score a double as South Sydney wrap up the game 34 to 22. And the Rabbitoh juniors remain undefeated in Victoria.

Late Changes - McGoon is out. Naufahu started centre. O'Brien is the concussion sub. Schwalger-Ioane and J.Rooke dropped off the bench. South Sydney almost scored twice in the opening exchanges only to be denied on both counts. While the big men were sizing each other out, it was Zane Hill who scored first from dummy half. Melbourne continued to provide opportunities through dropped ball, and it was Aufai-Farani who crashed over, giving South Sydney a 12 nil lead. Great ball work by Tarau saw Naufahu crash over for South Sydney's third try, giving South Sydney a commanding 18 nil at the break. A fired-up Storm came out after the break. First a blind sde rush saw the Storm hit back with their first try. A dropped bomb and the Storm are in again 12 to 18. Storm score again off a error from a grubber kick and suddenly its 18 all, with 15 minutes to play. South Sydney regained the lead from a dummy half run by Mailangi, giving South Sydney a slender 6-point lead. But it was outstanding goal-line defence in the last 3 minutes that saw South Sydney hang for victory 24 to 18.

NSWRL Womens U19 Tarsha Gale Cup - Round 2
v St George, Redfern Oval, Sat Feb 12:00pm
WIN 22-18
Late Changes - Mahanga is out. Chappell starts at centre, Kalland and Logan at prop, Ritchie at second row, Schultz and Haines on the bench. Kini-Samuelu is the concussion sub. P.Williams, Winters and Borg drop off the bench. South Sydney started poorly with a error seeing St George get a chance to open scoring out wide. But South Sydney hit back with great kickoff, which set South Sydney up for the first try as Logan crash over next to the posts. Another early dropped ball saw a repeat as the Dragons scored out wide, once again. A lovely kick from McGregor behind the defence saw the bounce of the ball beat everyone and Chappell scored out wide. The Dragons hit back on the stroke of halftime with the teams going into the break 12 all. After a tight opening of the second stanza saw South Sydney on the attack, and a well weighted bomb by McGregor saw Haines score out wide. More pressure saw Zapantis score from dummy half as the lead extended to 22 to 12. With 7 minutes to go the Dragons hit back and set the game up for another grandstand finish. But South Sydney hung on to open their account for the 2025 season on the back of a great kicking game by McGregor.

LOSS 12-16
Late Changes - Duggan was out. Ward starts centre, Taulaga on the wing, Taei and Loleni start at prop, Elliott and Harrison on the bench. Te Rito is the concussion sub. It was all South Sydney in the opening exchanges when our big girl Loleni crashed over from short range. This was then followed an arm wrestle for the remainder of the half, with a large number of errors. South Sydney going into the break with a 6 nil lead. Errors and Penalties allowed St George to dominate the early stages of the second half. An error close to our line saw St George to equalise. A failed touch finder gave the Dragons another oportunity which they took and the lead 6 to 10. A great kickoff which found touch gave South Sydney another opportunity. This was followed by a well placed bomb by Fakhr which saw Donovan score to give South Sydney the lead, with 10 minutes to go. But the Dragons got a late opportunity to steal the game 12 to 16.

NSWRL U19 SG Ball Cup - Round 1
v St George, Redfern Oval, Sat Feb 1 12:00pm [BAR TV]
WIN 58-12
Late Changes - Moses is the concussion sub. Ballard dropped off the bench. South Sydney opened the 2025 season playing last year's SG Ball Cup winners. The match was 5 minutes old when Humphries stepped close to the line and scored a great solo try. He was in again 4 minutes later for a double in a similar fashion. South Sydney are up 12 nil. Humphries was in the action again with a great cutout pass to send Poynton over. 17 minutes into the game and South Sydney are up 18 nil. An error from the kickoff gave the Dragon a opportunity, and their big men helped setup a try to hit back. A great blindside move saw Jennings race across outside and come around to score adjacent to the posts. St George hit back with a well-placed kick out wide. South Sydney headed into the break leading by 12. After a rugged opening broke the line Kuscu scored. 5 minutes later a Humphries bomb saw Tovio gather a loose ball and score. WIN 32-8
Late Changes - Taukafa is the concussion sub. O'Brien, Schwalger-Ioane and J.Rooke drop off the bench. The 2025 junior season opened with a lovely side ball from Z.Hill who sent Tarau over. Ten minutes later Davies offloaded to send Pung over out wide. The Dragons then hit back and the score was 10 to 4 to South Sydney. Feltham chimed in on a backline run and stepping magnificently and finished it off with a swan dive in a classic Steve Mavin fashion to score under the posts. An error just before the break gave St George an opportunity which they took. South Sydney went into the break leading 16 to 8. Soon after the break Tarau did a great chip and chase, regathered and passed to Simms who used his speed and ran over untouched. 7 minutes later we saw a nice hooker forward comination as Z.Hill sent Kane over under the posts. The game was sealed when Tarau worked a nice backline move and with a great cutout pass sent Simms over for his second. South Sydney won the second half 16 nil and the game 32 to 8.

LOSS 4-42
Late Changes - Jarrett is the concussion sub. P.Williams and N.Tukino dropped off the bench. 2025 kicked off with South Sydney once again being one of the teams that are still striving for a NRLW team, against teams who are feeders for NRLW teams. We continue to see better player gravitate towards these clubs. The opening quarter of the game was a tight contest with South Sydney dominating through great game control by McGregor. In the 14th minute South Sydney opened the scoring after a nice backline play saw Faasoa score. South Sydney leading 4 nil. But as the game went on Newcastle took control of the game scoring 4 unanswered tries down the left to lead 4 to 22 at the break. The second half was more of the same as Newcastle ran over for another 4 tries to take out the game 4 to 42.
