2025 - The Cyber View from the Hill

2nd Jul 2025

5 losses in a row

The let down from a golden point defeat, showed as the Dolphins tore us apart. We saw Walker go down with a injury once again this season. Early missed tackles that resulted in tries, saw us playing catchup football. But any comeback was snuffed out when we gifting the opposition 3 tries from dropped balls. 2025 season is fast approaching a conclusion. After 5 losses in a row we are now in a situation that we must win almost all remaining games to make the finals. Now off to a hostile Brookvale to play against Manly.

Smith Arrives

Welcome Brandon Smith, after finishing his rehab, Smith has been named on the bench this week. It will be a slow and steady return from his ACL injury. Looking forward to seeing him in action on the weekend.

Sullivan heartbreak

Jayden Sullivan our halfback, made his reserve grade debut on the week. It what looked like a simple grubber in goal, his foot got stuck in the mud and he broke a bone in his leg in a freak acident. We wish him the a speedy recovery, but his 2025 season is now over. And his loan contract arrangement may mean he has played his last game also.

Trew scores a double on debut

Bailey Trew a Brisbane Broncos development player, recommended to South Sydney by Issac Luke, transfered to South Sydney this week. Big tall 6ft 6inch winger, he had a immediate impact scoring with his first toych in the game. Scored another try and almost scoring a hatrick. He will be one to watch for the rest of the year.

June 30 Transfer Window a success

The mid season Jun 30 transfer window has been a success once again. Clubs had the option to source or let go of players while managing injuries or gaps in their roster. The window worked very well as clubs used the last few weeks to perform a transfer, and it occurred with the minimum of fuss. Keeping it down to a 4 to 6 week period helps also. The NRL and RLPA need to seriously look at how this worked and apply it to Nov 1 transfers. We all dislike seeing players sign for 2026 before a ball is kicked in anger in 2025. All that then happens is players get out of the final year of their on amost all occasions anyway. So the excuse of needing time to plan their relocation is not much of a concern to players.

Round 17 - Stat Attack

Statistically it was a poor game. Completions dropped to 72% from 84% last week. Errors dropped to 14 from 10 last week. We gave away 5 penalties and 3 6-again calls from 4 last week. Ruck defence Keppie/Tatola-Havili/Mamouzelos-Koloamatangi/Moale-Arrow/Hubner (5-4-3-7) dropped to 19 from 17 missed tackles last week.
