The Cowboys grinded their way to a 28-22 victory over the Rabbitohs in Magic Round to break a five-game losing streak. Both sides arrived at Suncorp Stadium desperate to turn their season around and Soth Sydney fought until the very end but North Queensland fought and scrapped their way to post an important two-points. The Cowboys' spine stamped their authority early with some slick hands from Tom Dearden, Chad Townsend and Scott Drinkwater opening up an opportunity for Viliami Vailea to cross in the right corner for a 4-0 lead. North Queensland extended their lead just five minutes later with returning winger Murray Taulagi powering through defenders before finding Dearden inside to stretch their lead 10-0. The Bunnies then made their way up field and star fullback Latrell Mitchell got his side on thee board after picking up a loose ball in close range before carrying four Cowboys over the line to score. Mitchell came up with another big play, taking on the line before sending a sweet pass over for Alex Johnston to score his 189th NRL try. With less than three minutes left in the half, hooker Reece Robson gave his side a chance to steal the lead before the break after splitting the Bunnies up the middle and taking the ball downfield. And after earning two repeat sets, a cutout Drinkwater pass sent club debutant Braidon Burns over to score against his former club and hand his side into the sheds with a 16-12 lead at the break. The Cowboys extended their lead early into the second half with a crafty offload from Jeremiah Nanai setting up Burns for a double in the right corner. With 15 minutes to play five-eighth Cody Walker stood up for South Sydney, stepping on the inside of Nanai to dart over from close range and bring his side back into the game 18-22. Come the 70th minute and Dearden muscled up to give his side some breathing room, busting through two would-be tacklers to crash over for a 28-18 lead. Holmes missed the conversion but a high shot which put Rabbitohs halfback Dion Teaupa in the bin handed the centre a penalty shot from in front. South Sydney hooker Damien Cook then darted his way through the line to reduce the deficit 28-22 but the Cowboys hung on to post their fifth win for the season.

Teupa has been charged with a Grade 1 Careless High Tackle after being placed on report in the 71st minute. It carries a base charge of $1500 fine. Teaupa has since taken the early guilty plea reducing the fine to $1000.

Despite the South Sydney Rabbitohs’ late efforts, the North Sydney Bears secured a 30-20 victory in a fiery clash at North Sydney Oval this evening. The Bears kicked off the scoring in just the second minute when a bomb that was allowed to bounce landed in the hands of halfback Ben Stevanovic, who smartly offloaded to back-rower Ben Talty to score. North Sydney dominated the opening quarter, scoring three more unanswered tries. The first came through winger Allan Fitzgibbon who cruised over following a lovely cut-out pass from Jake Toby, before Rua Ngatikaura set Jerry Key up for a try with a grubber. Talty then scored his second following a Jake Toby linebreak and offload. The Rabbitohs needed a spark to get into the game and that came through a Ryan Gray grubber, with the hooker diving to plant the ball down and score. The visitors then went back-to-back with a try for centre Codey Kennedy. With half-time looming, the hosts were able to swing momentum back their way with another Toby assist, this time a cut-out pass for his other winger Tuipulotu Katoa to take the Bears into the break leading 28-12. It was a quiet second half from the Bears apart from a penalty goal, while the Rabbitohs were able to put two more tries past the home side. The first try of the half came through a second for Kennedy, before winger Carson Kaho powered his way over in the corner after a flick pass from fullback Bayleigh Bentley-Hape. It proved too little, too late for the Rabbitohs as the Bears saw the game out, securing a 30-20 victory at North Sydney Oval in Round 11.

Late Changes - Teams was 1-17 with King the concussion sub. The game started in gale force winds behind the Rabbitohs. Nice line running saw Heslin score. A lovely kick in behind the defence from Doolan saw Reed ground the ball under the posts. It wasnt long and the weight of possession saw a nice backline move send Molkentien over in the corner. As the sun cames out Souths held a commanding lead 14 nil. A dubious knock decision saw Wright sin binned for dissent. The Warriors capitalised just before the break, and the teams went into halftime with Souths leading 14-4. Early in the second half Di Bartolo does a great short pass and Ibrahim off a nice right foot step crosses near the posts. The Warriors hit back with a try, but the Rabbitohs ran out winners 20-10.
