St George-Illawarra, who are about to head to Las Vegas fielded a full strength team, while the Rabbitohs fielded effectively their reserve grade combination, with 18 players in their Top 30 not participating in the contest. It was a brutal start to the 43rd Charity Shield down at WIN Stadium, former Rabbitoh Hame Sele got his head in the wrong spot while making a tackle. The lock has left the field for an HIA. Then former Dragon and now Rabbitohs halfback Jonah Glover left the field in considerable pain after receiving a shoulder to the jaw while attempting to tackle Luciano Leilua in the 2nd minute of the game. South Sydney then moved Ward to halback and Humphreys playing a familiar 5/8. The Dragons have the opening points of the match and marquee recruit Dan Atkinson played a key role in the try. Winger Setu Tu danced off his right foot and past multiple defenders before linking up with Atkinson. The halfback burst through a gap before linking up with Clint Gutherson for the four-pointer. St George Illawarra opened the door for the Rabbitohs by conceding a penalty for offside in front of the kicker. It didn't take long for the Rabbitohs to capitalise on the penalty, with a set restart handing the visitors a fresh set of six in attacking territory. After working their way to the left edge, South Sydney shifted back to the right and Talanoa Penitani got on the outside of opposite man Moses Suli to cross for the Bunnies. South Sydney immediately opened the door for the Dragons to hit straight back. The Rabbitohs spilled the ball in the first set after the kick-off, allowing the hosts to go on the attack. Clint Gutherson came close to scoring, Damien Cook spotted a marker out of position, spun out of one tackle and scored the try. The Dragons had a golden chance to extend their lead, but the last pass was dropped by Damien Cook with the line wide open. It was a former Dragon who made the hosts pay. Matt Dufty put a kick through, regathered the rebound and muscled his way through three defenders to get the ball down. The match evenly poised after 40 minutes. It was a dream start after the break, with the Rabbitohs immediately capitalising on a Tyrell Sloan error. The knock on gave the visitors prime field position and Latrell Siegwalt didn't need a second invitation, getting on the outside of his opposite defender and sliding over. South Sydney could sense a boil-over and they have their second try in the space of three minutes. Jamie Humphreys put up a bomb that was caught by Dragons winger Setu Tu. The youngster was quickly wrapped up and attempted a miracle offload as he was being tackled. The ball went to ground, Bayleigh Bentley-Hape scooped it up for a gift four-pointer. The Dragons have got one back after Luciano Leilua pounced on a Damien Cook grubber. The try came after St George Illawarra somehow managed to keep the ball alive on the last tackle before receiving a repeat set after it bounced off a South Sydney arm. The Rabbitohs have wrestled back control of this contest, with Matt Dufty producing a pair of excellent kick returns to get his side on the front foot. The Dragons have gifted another try to South Sydney and the Rabbitohs are one step closer to victory. A loose pass by Lyhkan King-Togia saw the ball hit the deck, Jordi Mazzone charged through, scooped it up and raced 35 metres to score. St George Illawarra keep their hopes of a miraculous comeback alive. Hayden Buchanan made a break down the left flank to put his side back on attack. The Rabbitohs were scrambling to get back onside, the Dragons shifted right and Mat Feagai scored out wide to keep his side alive. The Rabbitohs have held firm to stun the Dragons and reclaim the Charity Shield. South Sydney fielded a youthful side and were heavy underdogs heading into the contest but were full of energy and forced their opponents into multiple costly mistakes. Former Dragon Matt Dufty was superb in his first game back in Australia, while Jamie Humphreys pulled the strings after Jonah Glover left the contest early with a broken jaw.

Trial was played in 3 x 25 min periods. First period was touch contest from both teams. A cross field kick saw the Dragons open the scoring out wide. They scored again to lead 0-12 at the first break. Second period was more of the same as our fringe reserve grade payers struggled against last years runners up. Dargons lead 0 to 24. Final period saw the dragons score again before late in the game Poynton steels the ball and soon after Waitere scores. Poynton converts. Full time Dragons run out winners 6 to 28.

Trial was played in two halves with a short quarter interval break. First half was dominated by the Dragons who scored two tries to lead 0 to 8 at the break. Nice backline move saw South Sydney winger Sue score in the corner Dragons hit back with a try under the posts. Error gifted field position to the Dragons and they scored soon after The Dragons scored again midway through the last quarter out wide. They cemented the result with two late tries winning 4 to 24.

After kicking the ball out of the full from the kickoff, the Warriors go back to back. Fotu-Moala fails to convert. South Sydney hit back through a try to Ballard in the corner. South Sydney continued to probe the Warriors line before Alvarez sent Hill over near the posts. Fotu-Moala converts. South Sydney have a try denied from a late scrum play and lead at the break 14-6. Immediately after the break the Warriors drop the ball from the kickoff and Tauaa scores out wide. Fotu-Moala fails to convert South Sydney attacked in middle and Tauaa made a long break before send Alvarez under the posts for his hattrick. Cresswell adds the extras. Penrith openned the scoring of the game with some strong running to eventually score in the corner off their first set in the match. Poor right side defence saw Penrith in again out wide. Late in the half Penrith scored a long range try from a scrum break to lead 0 to 16 at the break. Lovely inside ball from McGregor sees Logan score untouched next to the posts. McGregor converts. After being gifted field position from the kickoff, McGregor kicked in behind the line saw Logan regather and crash through small girl like 9 pins and score again next to the posts. McGregor converts and South Sydney are now with 4 points of the Panthers at 12 to 16. With ten minutes to go, Penrith returned serve and scored near the posts. After a try saving tackle, Penrith rolled up the field and scored the game clinching try. Penrith winning 12 to 26.

Late Changes - Team is 1-17. Lafleur is the concussion sub. A nice move by South Sydney saw Ryan-Last set up Falepapalangi for a try. Ryan-Last failed to convert. A charged down kick, gave Penrith field position which they used to score in the corner. South Sydney hitback immediately when Koi-Ngaruhe juggled a ball before crashing over on the left. Ryan-Last failed to convert. South Sydney back in front 8 to 6 which they held to halftime. South Sydney openned the scoring when a cross-field kick by Trasler was regathed by Khoury who ram 30m beating defends to score in the corner. Ryan-Last failed to convert. After a dropped ball after the kickoff and a string of penalties, Penrith scored off a cross field kick and equalised at 12 all. More penalties and Penrith cross again out wide to take the lead. Penrith made it 3 tries in 7 minutes when the scored again in the opposite corner to take a 8 point lead, 12 to 20. A great solo effort saw Ryan-Last gather the ball from a kick and run 80m beat a number of defenders to score. McKee added the extras. South Sydney were denied a match winning try when looked to have scored off a scrum but was ruled to have dropped the ball. Penrith winning 18 to 20.

The U19 annual pre xmas trial was played in 3 x 25 minute periods. The trial was a strong defensive game and after a tough 1st period, the teams were locked at nil all. The second period picked up where they left off in another another tough battle before a break was made down the wing saw Warren score in the corner. The tough defensive game carried on in the 3rd period with Manly restoring to air to break the rock solid South Sydney defence, a bomb saw Manly leap above the South Sydney defence to score the equalising try. Final result a draw 4 all.

U17s kickoff their season in the annual pre-christmas trial. The match was played in 3 x 25 minute periods. Manly opened the scoring in the first minute of the match with a big sweeping play down the right. 12 minutes later Manly were in again on the right. At the end of the break Manly were in again out wide. South Sydney opened their scoring when big Burgess broke through tackles and scored. He was almost in again when he touched down under the posts only to be denied when both the referee and touch judge views were obscured. Late in the 2nd period a dropped bomb saw South Sydney score their second from dummy half run by Ahead. Third period started with Manly scoring early. Sustained pressure by South Sydney saw #19 cross late in the game. Final result a unlucky loss by 12 to 16.
