Disappointing Loss
The team, like the fans look to have reached a point in the season when they are looking for the season to end sooner rather than later. While former player Dane Gagai celebrated a hattrick in the first ever Gagai v Gagai match, there was little to celebrate as the team blew a early lead, through ongoing poor defence. There is a lot of off season work required to rebuild this team. But we still have games to play, two weeks to go and now off to the foot of mountains to face Penrith.
Dean Hawkins returns
After a few weeks back it was good to see Dean Hawkins return to first grade, his kicking game, with some nice in goal grubbers, helped maintain the teams positional play. Lacking a genuine halfback has been hurting us in recent seasons.
Ryan Gray double
Another double for Ryan Gray, means he maintains the top of the reserve grade try scorers list with 11 tries for the season. He has been a consistant reserve grade player all year.
Toby Sullivan double
Another player who tries hard every week is Toby Sullivan. He got the Flegg team off to a flyer this week with two tries up the middle.
Studdon leads the way
Maggie Studdon decided to take control of the game from the kickoff, he sneaking kickoff lead to her scoring the first try. But she wasn't finished as she setup tries and scored another herself in a great display in lead the Rabbitohs to victory. Not to be outdone Lyons also scored a double with her shift to centre, through some pwerful and timely runs.
Round 25 - Stat Attack
Statistically it was very poor game this week. Completions dropped to 69% from 78% last week. Errors dropped to 13 from 12 last week. We gave away 8 penalties and 2 6-again calls from 13 last week. Souths Effective 1st tackle improved to a average level of 32.2m from 35.3m last week. Our missed tackles dropped to abysmal level of 51 from 25 last week. Opposition offloads improved to 4 from 6 last week.
Looking at our left side defence - Munro-Milne-Wighton-Duncan (4-4-8-5) dropped to 21 from 2 missed tackles last week. On the right side Gagai-Myers-DHawkins-Koloamatangi/Host (0-8-5-1) dropped to 14 from 8 missed tackles last week. Ruck defence Moale/Burgess-Cook/Mamouzelos-Keppie/SMitchell-Murray/Cook (8-1-3-2) dropped to 14 from 13 missed tackles last week.
Our go forward dropped to 1684m from 2075m last week. With our props made a poor 366m compared to 329m last week. Duncan, Cook, Mamouzelos, Burgess and SMitchell made 10+m per run. Murray, Moale, Duncan, Keppie, Milne, Wighton, JGray and Munro made 100+m in the match. Defensively Murray was our best in the tackling raking up 53 tackles. Mamouzelos and Gagai didn't miss a tackle.
