WIN 42-24
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have reclaimed the Charity Shield following a 42-24 victory over rivals the St George Illawarra Dragons in a clinical showing at Glen Willow Oval, Mudgee. In celebrating the 40th edition of the annual Charity Shield clash, the Red and Green claimed the Club's 18th title with a seven-try performance, unfazed as temperatures soared above 36 degrees in the mid-west. With a near full-strength side, the Rabbitohs ran out to a 26-nil half-time lead to set up the victory, with Damien Cook setting up two tries, Cody Walker scoring two and Cameron Murray breaking the line twice as the spine clicked into top gear. Following a strong opening set, it was the men in the middle who provided the first points of the match, with a scheming run from Cook putting Murray through the line, who provided Thomas Burgess with his first try of the year. Campbell Graham soared to diffuse the Dragons' first raid of the day, and the roll-on continued as the potent left side saw Walker score his fifth Charity Shield try in his last six appearances, thanks to some clever work from Isaiah Tass and Alex Johnston. The Rabbitohs' defence denied the Dragons from scoring as pressure forced a forward pass, before Johnston's nous shut down an attacking raid to force the ball dead, before driving his opposite Mikaele Ravalawa into touch to save a try. Walker's boot troubled the Dragons' back three to force an error, and it was Cook who provided the side's third try of the match, dragging in defenders to put Latrell Mitchell through untouched from a scrum. It took just three minutes for the Red and Green to strike again, with Murray finding his way through the line thanks to clever play from Lachlan Ilias as Jai Arrow touched down to extend the scores. An impressive defensive effort in the final five minutes of the first half saw the Rabbitohs ride into the break with a clean sheet as a penalty extended the lead to 26-nil. The momentum continued into the second stanza, with Cook sending hulking youngster Davvy Moale over next to the posts in the 45th minute, with Mitchell's conversion equalling the biggest winning margin in Charity Shield history. St George Illawarra finally breached the Rabbitohs' defensive fortitude with Moses Mbye and Jayden Sullivan crossing, with both sides guilty of making errors as fatigue set in heading into the final quarter of the match. Just as the Dragons looked to post their third try, a counter-attack from Mitchell saw the Cardinal and Myrtle back in striking distance, and it was Walker hot-stepping to score his second of the afternoon. The Red V scored once more, with Jason Demetriou opting to rest the big guns for the final fourteen minutes as the boot of Blake Taaffe provided Jacob Gagai with a well-earned try. Despite their opponents crossing late, it was the Rabbitohs who took home the Charity Shield after an impressive 42-24 victory.

Reserve Grade - Knock-On Effect NSW Premiership Trial
v St George-Illawarra, Glen Willow Stadium Field 2, Sat Feb 18 10:30pm
WIN 28-10
Match was played as a closed trial on the warm up field and moved forward to 10:30am kickoff due to the extreme heat. Prior to the Charity Shield match, the NSW Cup side performed strongly in their final trial for 2023 with a 28-10 victory over St George Illawarra in Mudgee. The Rabbitohs – much like their NRL counterparts – were far from deterred from the heat, running in five tries to two in an impressive effort ahead of the season proper. Winger Tom Carr scored a double, while Zac Makelim, Bayleigh Bentley-Hape and Tom Giles found themselves on the scoresheet, with halfback Jarrett Subloo kicking four from five with the boot. Made even more impressive was the fact that the side continued their strong form into the second half, despite key figures Michael Chee-Kam, Terrell Kalo Kalo and Jacob Gagai being taken from the field to feature in the Charity Shield match.

NSWRL U21 Jersey Flegg Trial
v St George-Illawarra, Mascot Oval, Sun Feb 19 1:00pm
WIN 24-12
The final trial for the Jersey Flegg Under 21s side ahead of their 2023 season saw the Cardinal and Myrtle make it three from three against the Dragons over the weekend, in a 24-12 win. Souths fullback Carson Kaho opened the scoring with a nice try splitting the Dragons left side defence. The Dragons were quick to respond and scored a try of their own to level the scores. Despite the Dragons’ efforts, the Rabbitohs maintained their momentum and scored two more tries before half-time. Four pointers to wingers DJ Leugaimafa (set up brilliantly by Kaho) and Kahos’ 2nd try saw the home side take a 12-4 lead into the break. No conversions were attempted. In the second half, the Dragons hit back scoring two tries to level the scores. Souths then continued to dominate and were able to extend their lead again with another three tries. Man of the match Carson Kaho crossed again for his hat trick then back rower James Kokkinos powered his way past would be defenders to scores underneath the posts. The best try of the game came when halfback Joseph Nohra exploded through a gap, chipped and regathered then evaded a couple more scrambling Dragons players to score. This sealed an impressive 24-12 victory. The Rabbitohs showcased their attacking prowess and strong defense, while the Dragons will be looking to work on their execution and completion rate. In a six-tries-to-three victory, with no goal-kicking involved, it was strong performances from James Kokkinos and Carson Kaho – who scored a hat-trick – that impressed plenty. Trio Louis Grossemy, Romano Cook and Jaxson Rahme seamlessly slotted into the side for the first time in 2023 after spending the off-season with the NRL squad in a promising outing for the Jersey Flegg side.

NSWRL U19 SG Ball Cup - Round 3
v Western Suburbs, Kirkham Oval, Sat Feb 18 11:30am
LOSS 4-50
Late changes - Juras dropped out of the squad and Veiru was the concussion substitute. It was a tough assignment heading to Camden for the SG Ball Under 19s team, who were comprehensively defeated 50-4 against the Western Suburbs Magpies. The Rabbitohs hit back after a fast start from their opponents to keep the scoreline to 16-4 at the break, but further injuries to an already decimated side made for a hard finish for the young side.

Following a back-and-forth first quarter which saw the scores at nil-all, the Rabbitohs found themselves trailing 18-nil at the break with a mountain to climb in the second stanza. Despite being unable to reel in the result, the youthful side had a much improved second half, scoring two tries to three, with the effort showing the true potential of the side.

NSWRL Womens Premiership - Round 3
v Wests-Tigers, Kirkham Oval Field 2, 11:00am
LOSS 22-23
Late Changes - Filipo and Cain are out. Perugini starts half, Cook second row and Cassidy on the bench. Rainima is the concussion sub. It was a heartbreaking loss for the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership side, who went down gallantly 23-22 against defending Premiers the Wests Tigers at Kirkham Oval in Camden. Aaliyah Paki and Paige Knapp gave the Red and Green an early lead, and while the hosts came out of the sheds at half-time up by eight points, the Red and Greens were able to reclaim their advantage with further four-pointers to Charlette Butler and Tasmin Barber. Unfortunately, the Rabbitohs were pipped at the death by a field goal, despite their brave effort, but there are still bright signs ahead from Shane Sultana's determined outfit.

WIN 26-0
Late changes - Maxwell-Puohotaua, Gebadi and Mafi are out. Bolatagici starts on the wing, Mundine on the bench and Toga is the concussion sub. The Tarsha Gale Under 19s celebrated their first victory of the season with a comprehensive 26-nil victory over the Wests Tigers, which has them in 5th place on the competition ladder. Shanelle Lyons kicked off the scoring in the 10th minute, with hooker Te Ramaarie Muru-Hauraki adding to the scoresheet to give the young Rabbitohs a 12-nil buffer at the break. Lyons bagged her brace to open the scoring in the second stanza, while centre Aneko Luamanu-Winitana completed a double of her own to extend the scores as front rower Cherellyn Tapuai put the cherry on top in the 56th minute. Coming off a winless season in 2022, the victory was evident of the positive changes implemented from Head Coach Dale Jackson, as well as the bond and connection within the new-look group.

NSWRL U19 SG Ball Cup - Round 4
v Newcastle, Kurri Kurri Sportsground, Sat Feb 25 1:20pm
LOSS 4-42
Late changes - Towns, Sele, Lole-Ngarima and Vieru are out. McLaren starts fullback, Pritchard and Matakaiongo at prop, with Gallo on the bench and Aarons is the concussion sub. The South Sydney Rabbitohs SG Ball Cup side was unable to come away with a victory in Kurri Kurri against the Newcastle Knights, defeated 42-4 on Saturday. With a number of omissions on the morning of the game - which saw two players called in to make their SG Ball Cup debut - the Rabbitohs fielded a side that was unrecognisable from the line up that played in Round 1, with nine changes. Fighting through the adversity, the Red and Greens kept a respectable 14-nil scoreline at half-time with a number of courageous efforts on display, however, with a mounting injury toll, the Knights showed their prowess to run away with the victory in the second stanza.

WIN 24-22
Late changes - Dowling and Saracoglu are out. Moses starts at prop, Mahon on the bench. Pasikala is the concussion sub. It was a breakthrough victory for the South Sydney Rabbitohs' Harold Matthews Cup side, securing the two competitions in a tense 24-22 comeback win against Newcastle. Despite conceding first points, the young outfit struck back through lock Marshall Le Maitre, who crashed over to level the scores. While the home side returned serve with three tries before the break, leaving the Red and Greens with a 22-6 mountain to climb, the challenge saw them produce their best form of the season thus far. Winger Charlie Mann scored just four minutes into the second half, and just a few moments later, Le Maitre bagged his double to put the Rabbitohs back in the match. Captain Daniel Lua was next to get on the board, with the conversion giving the side the lead for the first time in the match, most impressively as the Rabbitohs shut out their opponents in the second half to cap off a memorable win.

v Newcastle, 4:20pm
WIN 16-12
Late Changes - Simpson, Longford and Backhouse are out. Rainima started at second row, Cassidy started at lock, Cook and Iesha Duckett on the bench. The Harvey Norman Women's Premiership side has come away with a brave 16-12 effort against the Newcastle Knights, in what was a tightly-fought affair in Kurri Kurri. After coming oh-so-close to a maiden win in the 2023 season following close defeats to Canterbury-Bankstown and the Wests Tigers (decided by a heartbreaking field goal), the Rabbitohs took home the two points in a sensational win for Coach Shane Sultana's side. Following a scoreless opening stanza, it was the Red and Greens who crossed first for an early lead through centre Makayla Eli, before a converted try to Newcastle saw the home side take a 6-4 lead at the break. That failed to worry the young Rabbitohs side, however, as they rallied in the second half with Captain Patricia Raikadroka touching down before second rower Tia Cook extended the scores soon after. Newcastle hit back with another four-pointer to bridge the gap, but it was the skipper who stood up to score the match-winner in the 55th minute, as the Cardinal and Myrtle's defensive resolve sealed victory in the final fifteen minutes.

LOSS 6-22
Late changes - In tough conditions up in Kurri Kurri, the South Sydney Rabbitohs Tarsha Gale Cup side were defeated 22-6 against 2022 Grand Finalists the Newcastle Knights. The Rabbitohs capitalised early through Yilara Widders - daughter of former NRL Rabbitoh Dean - who scored the opening try of the match just three minutes in to give the side a 6-nil lead. However, two tries from the home side swung the momentum of the match, and although the side found themselves trailing 12-6 at the break, the young Rabbitohs were still well within striking distance. Dale Jackson's side continued to trade blows with the Knights in a back-and-forth contest, with a late four-pointer in the dying stages securing victory for Newcastle.
