2026 - The Cyber View from the Hill

First Loss of the Season

After a quality start to the year winning the first 3 games of the year. The Rabbitohs were not able to overcome some strong defence on the weekend. Losing Ward impacting the spine and Sullivan being rushed back not enough. Defence still needs more work across the top 2 grades amd will impact our season if not addressed. After all of the celebrations we need to regroup and focus on the task at hand, which is winning the competition points at this time of the season. Its now off to Gosford for a rare 3 grade day of football against a in form Tigers outfit.

All Hail Alex Johnston the Great

It was another Alex Johnston multiple try scoring feat on the weekend as our leathel left showed what it can do when gven a chance. His first try came from quick hands and Mitchell sending Johnston over to equal the try scoring record. Then his second was spectular 90m effort first from Fifita who broke the line and then Mitchell who drew the fullback to give Johnston a 50m clear run to the line as the stadium urged him on the break the record. The scenes that then came to celebrate his achievement will be remembered for years to come. And we saw the first statue erected at Heffron to celebrate his acheivement. The boy from La Perouse. All hail Alex Johnston the Great.

Fong returns for a double

A familiar face made his long awaited return from injury. Jacob Fong was back and his pace was very evident as he combined to score two great wingman tries. Its a steady return for Fong. His class was evident. Looking forward to a big season from our speedster. 2 wins from 2 games was a great start to the season for our U21 boys.

Alverez triple

Taj Alvarez has made a immediate impact upon his retrun from injury. His ability at 5/8, speed off the mark and support play was evident for all to see. On the weekend he scored a hattrick of tries to dominate a top of table clash. He has now scored 5 tries in 2 games, as the U19 continues it run with 6 wins from 6 games to sit in equal first.

Matts Steal the win

Our U17 boys had one of their toughest games of the season, and were down by 1 point with 1 minute on the clock. But in a never say die attitude, they got the ball back from the short kickoff and scored a try in the corner to steal the game. Thats 5 from 5 and the team sits equal second.

6 agains still increasing now 78%

Round 2 has seen the 6 agains jump by a wopping 78% on the same period last year, while penalty count remains the same. It is clear we are in a NRL 6-again crackdown. Players are now asking what was that for. Just like the fans they have no idea. With players having no idea why they were penalised, they continue to give away set restarts. The concern is now the game is wide open for corruption. Referees now have too much say in the outcome of the game with no need to explain themselves. It won't be long before someone is compromised to rig a game or a exotic bet. Gone are the set plays from a scrum or penalty tap kick, as teams now work extra hard on stripping the ball as plays now breakdown when errors occur more often than not. How long will the crackdown go on will be interesting.

Round 2 - Stat Attack

Statistically it was a poor game. Completions improved to 80% from 75% last week. Errors improved to 11 from 13 last week. We gave away 7 penalties and 4 6-again calls from 7 last week. Souths Effective 1st tackle dropped to a poor level of 39.2m from 25.4m last week. Our missed tackles dropped to a average level of 35 from 19 last week. Opposition offloads improved to 7 from 14 last week.

Looking at our left side defence - Johnston-Mitchell-Walker-Fifita (0-2-2-7) dropped to 11 from 3 missed tackles last week. On the right side Graham-Wighton/Duncan-Sullivan/Wighton-Aitken/Duncan (1-2-1-5) improved to 9 from 10 last week. Ruck defence Tatola/Aitken-Garlick/Mamouzelos-Koloamatangi/Keppie-Murray/Hubner (2-3-5-3) dropped to 13 from 5 missed tackles last week.

Our go forward dropped to 1515m from 1889m last week. With our props go forward improved to a poor level of 365m compared to 465m last week. Johnston made 10+m per run. Fifita, Koloamatangi, Tatola, Gray, Johnston, Graham and Mitchell made 100+m in the match. Defensively Murray was our best in the tackling raking up 47 tackles. Johnston didn't miss a tackle.
