The South Sydney Rabbitohs have openned their season account in a high scoring 40 to 30 win over the Dolphins. David Fifita and Bronson Garlick made their respective debuts for the Rabbitohs. South sydney openned the scoring when Campbell Graham finished off a well worked backline play to score in the corner. Mitchell failed to convert. A stray pass by Walker allowed the Dolphins to run the length of the field to score. A trademark powerful run by Mitchell close to the line saw him score. He converted his own try. South Sydney were almost in again, before a penalty was awarded and Mitchell kicked the goal allowing South Sydney to jump to a 8 point lead. Field position allowed the Dolphins to hit back reducing the lead to just 2. A Ward bomb saw the Graham regather pass infield only for the Dolphins to fumble and he rathered the scored his second try. Mitchell converts. At the break South Sydney lost Aston Ward to a leg injury, bringing Sullivan into the game. The Dolphins opened the scoring in the second half, after working their way down field after a un forced error from Hubner, who also failed to cover a kick in goal. Soon after the Dolphins were in again, and the difference was now only 6 points. Hubner redeemed him self when the scored a close range try. Mitchell converted. A error from the Dolphins saw Mitchell in for his second. He converts, as South Sydney jump out to a commanding 40-22 lead. A scuffled saw both sides reduced to 12 men. Late in the game the Dolphins scored a consolation try and penalty goal. South Sydney running out winners.

Late Changes - Williamson was the concussion sub. Hansen, ALhazim and Lawry dropped off the bench. South Sydney were fielding 11 new faces in the team, compared to the squad who finished last on ladder last year. It was a difficult afternoon for the Rabbitohs in the opening round of The Knock On Effect NSW Cup, as the Knights proved too strong at Cessnock Sportsground. The Knights opened the scoring early after South Sydney struggled to hold them out up the middle. It was they a tough encounter, as South Sydney struggled to contain the offloads. Lock forward Elijah Leaumoana opened the scoring for Newcastle after a frantic passage of play that broke down multiple times before the Knights finally crossed. Connor Votano's conversion made it 6-0. South Sydney showed tremendous resilience in the opening 40 minutes, defending wave after wave of Newcastle attacks. Despite being starved of possession and forced to complete a mountain of defensive work, the visitors struck back through centre William Afualo, with Bayleigh Bentley Hape's conversion levelling the scores at 6-6. The momentum appeared to be shifting, but Francis Manuleleua's try right on half-time gave the Knights a 12-6 advantage at the interval. Whatever was said in the Knights' dressing room at half-time had the desired effect. The Knights exploded in the second stanza, running in seven more tries to record an emphatic victory. Kane Graham extended the lead within minutes, before Connor Votano showed his class with a try of his own. The floodgates had opened, and South Sydney's defensive line began to crack under the relentless pressure. Francis Manuleleua grabbed his second try of the afternoon, showcasing the footwork and support play that marked Newcastle's attacking dominance. Leaumoana followed suit with his second four-pointer, capitalising on quick hands and solid forward momentum. The Rabbitohs managed a consolation try through Te Wehi Waitere late in the contest. The Knights weren't finished. Jacob Davis crossed from dummy-half after spotting a defensive lapse, before Wilson De Courcey put the icing on the cake with a try in the dying seconds following a perfectly weighted kick from Leaumoana. Votano finished with a perfect seven-from-seven conversion rate, capping off a comprehensive team performance.

It was an encouraging start to the season for the young Rabbitohs, who controlled the contest and were clinical in attack when opportunities presented themselves. South Sydney opened the scoring from a great cutout ball by Feast that sent Skillington over in the corner. Poynton failed to convert. Weight of possession saw South Sydney work their way up field and Hadley Smith scored from dummy half. Poynton converts. After starving off the Knights, South Sydney worked their way up field and Hadley Smith scored his second from dummy half. Poynton converts. An error from the kick allowed the Knights to score soon after. The scoreline remained the same, halftime South Sydney up 16 to 4. After the break Newcastle were first to score, soon after a error, as the spread the ball and scored out wide. South Sydney were denied a try, and immediately after on the back of two penalties Newcastle score in the corner. Score 14 to 16. After a arm wrestle, it was captain Poynton who made a break behind a tiring ruck, who then linked up with Alvarez to use his speed to score. Poynton fails to convert. Kuscu clinched the match when he field a chip kick by the Knights to run 70m to score evalding defenders untouched. Poynton converts. South Sydney running out winners 26 to 14. The 12-point winning margin was a fitting reward for a well-rounded team effort in the season opener.
