2026 - The Cyber View from the Hill

27th May 2026

A week off to lick our wounds

After two losses up in Queensland with injuries mounting, the bye was a welcome relief to allow players some much needed recovery. THis week we get 3 players back after losing two for the season. It will continue to be a rocky road for the next month as the 6-again rule and concussions continue to play havoc with team squads. Still 8 more wins to make the finals. We now head off to Brookvale against a Manly team who just signed their rookie coach long term, and a month of Thursday Night Football.

Elliott season ends

Adam Elliott who was just finding his feat after a year on the sideline, went down with a ankle injury in the game. During the week it was confirmed it was a deltoid rupture, which has ended his season. It will take a good 5 months recovery. He is nearing the end of his career so its important he has a full recovery.

Dickson strong game at fullback

A interesting choice last week was the choice of Logan Dickson at fullback. He was a Blacktown Ron Massey Cup centre. But looked like a natural fullback on the weekend, and earned a follow up game this week. Looking forward to seeing him follow up last weeks effort, as the NSW Cup bpys also return from a bye this week.

Feast strong game in the centre

Jarrayne Feast who had been playing in the halves early in the season, came back into the team in the centres. He impressed me with his strong running and defence, and looked very at home in centres, scoring a try. He keeps his place in the team as the U21 boys look to go back to back.

Is Origin loosing its luster

In 2026 Origin was made into effectively a 'All-Star" game with the inclusion of New Zealand and England players. We still have a strong promotion of the game and TV audiance, but the game itself was a clear drop in quality. The first origin was a strong defensive display for the first 60 minutes, with Queensland dominating early part of the game. It took a send off to open game up. But it did highlight a single refereeing decision can effected the game. CRowd was slightly down and comments after the contest that the event is losing its appeal continue. I am personally more interested in the upcoming Rugby League World Cup than Origin, which no longer serves as a selection trial for Australian national team.
