On the opening night of Majic round a injury riddled Rabbitohs team went down 10 to 32 at Lang Park Stadium to a commited Dolphins outfit. South Sydney went into the game with Latrell Mitchell, Jye Gray and Keoan Koloamatangi under a injury cloud, with Mitchell not performing his kicking duties due to his lower back injury. South Sydney came out and dominated the opening 10 minutes. But then the Dolphins made a line break that needed a great try saving tackle by Ward to stop the Dolphins scoring. From then it was all Dolphins. Pressure from a run of possession resulted in a penalty in front of the posts to the Dolphins. It wasn't long after, and on the back of multiple 6-agains that the the Dolphins caught South Sydney short on the left side to score. With the rain now coming down and on the back of more possession some poor prop defence allowed the Dolphins to score under the posts. As the Dolphins continue to control possession, they score again down the left side to take out a commanding 0 to 20 lead, which they held at halftime.
After a torrid openning to the second half, South Sydney were denied a try when Kosi looked to ground the ball in the corner. But it was the Dolphins who scored first in the second half when they spun the ball out wide and scored. The score had bounded out to 0 to 24. Pressure by South Sydney and they finally break the line through quick ball movement that saw Bentley-Hape score in the corner. Bentley-Hape failed to convert. South Sydney went back to back when Ward sent Aitken over off a nice short ball. Bentley-Hape converts. But it was the Dolphins who finished with a late try under the posts against a tired defence. Another late penalty goal under the pot on the fulltime siren and the Dolphins run out convincing winners 10 to 32, in a dominant defensive display.

Judiciary News
Murray was placed on report for a dangerous tackle(cannonball) in the 25th minute. However no further action was taken by the Match Review committee.
Graham was placed on report for a potential trip in the 52nd minute. He has since been charged by the Match Review Committee with a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact(Tripping) charge which carries a base charge of $1000. He has since taken the early guilty please resulting the charge being reduce to $750.

Late Changes - Dufty starts at fullback, Dickson is the concussion sub. Ayache, Lawry and Vito dropped off the bench. The match was played as part of Beer, Wine and Food festival weekend at North Sydney Oval, where all 6 reserve grade teams played at the same venue. After a torrid opening period it was South Sydney who scored first, when Sullivan with a cutout ball sent Mazzone over out wide. Glover converts. After Manly were dominating field position, before a great 40-20 by Mamouzelos relived the pressure. After Manly were denied a try in the late stages of the half, it was a long range break that opened Manly up but South Sydney were not able to capitalise. Halftime 6 nil to Rabbitohs in a very tight contest. It took a bomb from Manly to finally cross the South Sydney line as the open the scoring in the second half, levelling the scores 6 all. A dropped ball from Manly, put South Sydney on the attack and a short ball by Sullivan sent Fletcher over. Glover converts. With Sullivan and Dufty starting to combine will as the game continued. A penalty allowed South Sydney to extend their lead to 8 points with Glover kicking the goal. With Manly on the attack a loose pass it collect by Kirk and he ran 85m out pacing the Manly defence to score under the posts. Glover converts. South Sydney were in again this time from a short ball from Le Blanc who sent Radel over. Glover converts. A short kickoff and a penalty gave Manly field position and scored near the posts. The Manly half caught the South Sydney defence napping late in the game and linked with his winger to score stepping back in. But South Sydney hang on to win 26 to 18.
