2024 - The Cyber View from the Hill

14th August 2024

Second Half Improvement

The team started slowly, and as expected the Storm attacked our lower graders with success. It took us until just after half time before we started to recover our composure. The fringe first grade players continue to gain a wealth of experiance, as everyone waits for the season to finish. We now for our first premiership outing at Campbelltown since 1999 against the last place Tigers.

Myers double

Fletcher Myers is starting to build a try scoring portfolio at the Rabbitohs. He scored two tries, the first when he out paced Papenhouzen. It was great to see a player with pace in our backline, for the first of his 2 tries in the game. After scroring a hatrick on debut in reserve grade, he has now notched up 6 tries in six seior grade games. Hope there are plenty more coming up.

Hawkins brothers play together

Over at the South side of Auckland New Zealand in Takarini, the HAwkins brothers Dean and Brent walked on the field to play together for the first time in a competition match. Brent a half played five-eighth and Dean half. Looking forward to see how this halves combination go in the final weeks of the season. With Dean coming back from a hamstring injury, Brent kept the goal kicking duties for the time being.

Felsch steps up

Another famous name appeared on the bench this week, Felsch. Tavis Felsch a prop stepped up from U19s. He is one of 11 players who have stepped from U19s this year. Looking forward to see if he can live to the famous Felsch name, where Fred Felsch captained the club back in the 1930s.

Ritchie and Coote steps up

We also also seeing a few U19 girls stepping up in recent weeks. Abbie Ritchie last week and Georgie Coote this week. Good luck to the girls in their senior career.

No place for drugs in sport

Drugs and sport just don't mix. It was 30 years ago when a social drugs problem ripped this great club apart. Players performaces drop, injury recovery takes longer, and there is the threat of fines and suspension. And it doesn't take long for it to escalate and impact your life in general, on and off the field. While young players like young people in general get dempted, its important to mainatain a tough love in these circumstances. The last thing we want is drug culture or performance enhancing drugs to creep back into the game or our club.

Round 23 - Stat Attack

Statistically it was very poor game this week. Completions dropped to 69% from 73% last week. Errors dropped to 13 from 11 last week. We gave away 6 penalties and 3 6-again calls from 9 last week. Souths Effective 1st tackle dropped to a very poor level of 44.3m from 37.0m last week. Our missed tackles dropped to horid level of 46 from 26 last week. Opposition offloads dropped to 4 from 2 last week.

Looking at our left side defence - Myers-Milne-Wighton-CheeKam/Kolomatangi (1-5-2-3) was steady at 11 missed tackles again this week. On the right side Gagai-Kennar-Walker-Murray (1-2-4-8) dropped to 15 from 8 missed tackles last week. Ruck defence Moale/Burgess-Cook-Keppie/Koloamatangi/SMitchell-Koloamatangi/Duncan/Mamouzelos (2-3-8-6) dropped to 19 from 7 missed tackles last week.

Our go forward dropped to 1510m from 1716m last week. With our props made a horrid 280m compared to 417m last week. Keppie, S.Mitchell, Myers and Milne made 10+m per run. Murray, Myers, Wighton, Kennar, Milne, J.Gray made 100+m in the match. Defensively Murray was our best in the tackling raking up 44 tackles. S.Mitchell didn't miss a tackle.
