In a torrid encounter, South Sydney bounced back with outstanding defence to beat the Sharks 36-12, with Alex Johnston recording his 100th try at Stadium Australia in style with his record breaking 17th hatrick. A early penalty within kicking range allowed Siegwalt to score a penalty goal and openning the scoring for South Sydney. Midway through the half South Sydney had lost Aitken and Kosi to HIA assessments. This caused a reshuffle with Murray to left second row, Duncan to right centre and Hubner to lock. After sustained pressure from a 7 nil penalty count, Jye Gray send Johnston over in the corner. Siegwalt converts. A great break by Gray and Johnston was stopped just short of the line. South Sydney they spread the ball to the right and Aitken scored in the corner. Siegwalt converts from the sideline. South Sydney were in again when Johnston scored his 100th try at Stadium Australia. Siegwalt failed to convert. The Rabbitohs went into break lead in a commanding 18 nil lead.

Cronulla hit back when the made a break behind the ruck and scored near the posts. Sustained pressure and the SHarks caught the South Sydney markers napping as the scored again. A nicely worked backline play saw Taj Alvarez send Lenoy-Sam over. Poynton fails to convert. Sharks scored again late in the game to run out convincing winners 16 to 38.
