2024 - The Cyber View from the Hill

4th September 2024

Forwards Struggle

Another game against a Top 4 team and once again our forwards struggled to make metres up the middle. Its been a similar theme all year against the better teams. This is compounded by our regular poor right side defence. One more game to play against our arch rivals at home.

Munro special double

It was a tough week for young 19 year winger Tyrone Munro, losing his mother during the week and uncle the day before the match. But he played with his heart on his sleave in one of his best performances to date, scoring two tries and should have had a third if not for two forward passes or even a 4th if not for a desperate ankle tackle. His class and speed was for all to see, and most pleasing was how well his shoulder is holding up.

Thompson and goodbye Buddy

In a good comeback the reserve grade team almost pulled off a upset. Thompson was on the end of another two tries. But the day belonged to long serving Buddy Gordon who after making his senior grade debut in 2004, and first grade debut in 2005 hung up his boots after 21 seasons. He was the last pre-privatisation Rabbitoh. Our rserve grade team finished their season on the weekend, in a disappointing second last position. The season as impacted severly by the volume of injuries the club faced. Ryan Gray our top try scorer with 11 tries and Ryan Gray and Brent Hawkins our top point scorers with 44.

U21s season finally over

Our U21s season ending after a disappointing second half of the year, going from being 4th in Round 10 to only winning one game in the last 14 weeks to finish second last. Top point scorer was Brent Hawkins with 48 points, while Dae Towns finished as the top try scorer with 10 tries.

Women hanging in there

In the first game back to Hurstville Oval in more than 50 years, saw our women take on St George. The girls got off to a great start before hanging in there for a tight win. Our women team sit just 2 points outside of the Top 5 with two rounds to go.

NRL Suspensions pending Injury recovery - What's Doin?

This week the NRL caused a huge controversey by insisting that a suspension be served ONLY after a player has been deemed fit to play. One thing that stands out by this ruling is the situation when a player is injured during a game or suffers a HIA, and then gets a MRC/NRL suspension. Do all clubs now need to issue a medical report that a player is fit to play, before the player serves a suspension going forward? What's doin?

Round 26 - Stat Attack

Statistically it was horrid game this week. Completions improved to 82% from 69% last week. Errors improved to 11 from 13 last week. We gave away 11 penalties and 2 6-again calls from 10 last week. Souths Effective 1st tackle dropped to a abymsmal level of 52.1m from 32.2m last week. Our worst in 6 years. Our missed tackles improved to horrid level of 46 from 51 last week. Looking at our left side defence - Munro-Milne-Wighton/Cook-Duncan (2-2-2-6) improved to 12 from 21 missed tackles last week. On the right side Gagai-Myers-Walker-Host/Koloamatangi (3-6-5-4) dropped to 18 from 14 missed tackles last week. Ruck defence Moale/Burgess/LeBlanc-Cook/Mamouzelos-Keppie/Havili-Koloamatangi/LeBlanc (3-2-10-1) dropped to 16 from 14 missed tackles last week.
